What is Macrobiotics?
Macrobiotics is a discipline of healing which believes that the pillar of anyone’s health is Food. It says that our gut is the primary system of keeping our health in good shape. Focusing on balance and harmony, Macrobiotics also includes a healthy exercise routine and behavioral changes.
What does a Macrobiotic diet mean?
Macrobiotics emphasizes eating natural, organic, seasonal and locally grown foods. A typical macrobiotic diet includes whole grains and cereals (40-60%), local and organically grown vegetables, especially leafy greens (20-30%), beans & fermented foods (5-10%), locally available fruits and dry-fruits, herbals teas and beverages. A dairy-free, and largely plant-based diet which excludes animal fat.
The Macrobiotic Diet goes beyond macro-micro nutrients, and calories. It addresses the energy components of foods, their cooking styles, along with the constitution of your body, genetic predisposition, location, climate, and other variables that govern foods, which are used in the Macrobiotic approach to regain all-round health and wellness.
How can it heal diseases?
Macrobiotics encompasses both functional medicine and lifestyle medicine. It treats the whole body as one single system and works on the cause of the disease. This discipline uses the food that we eat to reverse the disease or ailment, without using any medication. It works only with diet and food.
The cause of the disease is established first, and then the right foods are introduced in diet, keeping the Energetics of the Foods as a basis to reverse the ailment. If you are suffering from multiple ailments, all of those could be worked on together, in a cohesive manner. You wouldn’t need different plans for different ailments.
