How to Alkalize yourself Naturally

 

Acid is created in the body with every action, whether breathing , walking , digesting or other physiological activities. However, acid created during physiological activities gets neutralised with rest and doesn't cause acidity. The whole body however has an overall disposition which is slightly alkaline. Ted Morter has summed this up well , he says ," Body is acidic by function but alkaline by nature."

Acidity is caused due to excessive use of cooked foods, animal foods and high grain diets, as these foods are relatively complex in nature , in comparison to uncooked foods,plant foods and a diet of lightly cooked vegetables ! Complex food pushes our body to create more Hydrochloric acid for digestion, and short changes our body which has to keep the important task of elimination , on the back burner. This leads to build up of waste matter in the body, and over a period of time, this leads to higher Acidity levels.

Habits to balance and Alkalize your Body :

Habits are repeated actions , that we practice daily. Someone has correctly said, that we are ultimately, a sum of what we repeat daily!

Naturally Alkalizing Habits

  1. Green your Life

When we can invite the outdoors inside, by keeping green plants, whether its a simple green leaf of the Monstera plant, or its a stem of a money plant, everything that has life, emanates life ! Simply keeping a few plants next to your bed , kitchen shelf, bathroom or study table, conversing with them , as we go about our busy lives, is a step towards balancing.

  1. Grow Flowers

Fragrant bushes and plants like Raat ki rani, Champa, Gardenia, Rose, Orchid Cactus, Motia, Magnolia , Spider lily etc are a joy in anyone’s garden. Sensorial relaxation is key to creating harmony and calming the overworking mind of ours.

  1. Grow Herbs

Connecting with the earth and process of growing something that could be used daily, is a very fulfilling activity. It equalizes the sense of deprivement we all have by living far away from land and farms, in cities and apartments.

  1. Grow Vegetable Plants and Fruit Trees

When you plant a seed, and watch it grow into a plant or a tree, and watering it daily, you see the flowers growing into fruits and as you reach out to pluck the fruits of these plants, an overwhelming feeling of connectivity and continuity surrounds you! Try it and see for yourself.

  1. Grow Sprouts

This is an easy process as you don't need much space and I have done it in a moving train, in hotel rooms and in the homes of friends I visited. Definitely every daal or grain we eat, if sprouted, has higher life force and digest’s far better.

  1. Walk on some Grass

It is something so natural, yet so ignored. New research is now showing the benefit of earthing , by sitting on grass and lying outside. US doctirs are now prescribing forest therapy to treat their patients as varying conditions as diabetes to thyroid. Hormonal balance after all is deeply linked to Acid Base Balance.

  1. Eat green vegetables fresh and cooked, and fresh fruits daily

Fruits and fresh vegetables replenish our inner mineral reserves and help our body in the critical role of acid alkaline balance.

  1. Avoid overeating

Minimum is the new maximum ! Stop as soon as you sense the tripti dakaar. Discipline strengthens the mind, and even though each time we fail at controlling our sense organs, every effort gets compounded over time, to form that strength and will power, so keep trying, till you get there.

  1. Eat only when hungry

Eating without hunger means the body is busy with the digestion process of food that was eaten earlier. The addition of fresh food, into the stomach or small intestine, where earlier food is already being mixed with the acidic gastric juices, leads to increase in acidity, as body is overcompensating by releasing extra gastric juices, which increases the acidity in the body !

  1. Chewing every bite

Once food is thoroughly mixed with the alkaline amylase in the mouth, digestive juices in the stomach can easily break it down further.

  1. Stay outdoors in Mother Nature

As we are a part of Nature, our body rejuvenates itself, by being in Natural surroundings. Swim in lakes and rivers and pools, walk in parks and forests , sit in the fresh morning air and play in the park , to naturally rebalance your PH scale.

  1. Wake up early for soft sunlight

Source of all life, needs to be acknowledged daily, and some schools of thought like Yoga, have developed a practice called Surya Namaskar, to greet this original Nourisher of our Cells. In summer, only the first hour after sunrise or last hour before sunset is soft and safe to soak.

  1. Replace sugar with dates

The more we replace dense and complex foods with whole foods , the less our digestive system would need to work to digest the food, and acid levels will stay low.

  1. Replace salt with green herbs

Salt is completely inorganic, concentrated and not Whole in nature ! Thus in a bid to digest and remove this irritant, our body is constantly losing its own organic minerals, which leads to acidity!

  1. Breath awareness

It is only through breathing deeply that are lungs are able to remove carbon dioxide efficiently and bring in oxygen to all areas of the body. Lungs are the single organ which can improve the functioning of all other body organs.

  1. Remove all tinned, canned , processed, packaged, bottled foods and readymade icecreams

All above food contains ACIDITY Regulators !

  1. Start a Gratitude Journal

Positive thoughts create internal space, allowing old, unneeded patterns and thoughts to be eliminated and cleaned from the mind-body. William Davis , a molecular biologist has shown how on a cellular level, thoughts like fear and anger, close the cell membrane , preventing waste material to be removed and fresh nutrients from reaching inside the cells. Whilst during feelings of love and peace, these very cell membranes open up, allowing exchange of waste matter and nutrients with the lymph system.

  1. Go through the day slowly - What's the rush ?

Our body is always rebalancing itself , but this needs time ! When we rush everywhere, keep busy during each and every minute of the day, we simply do not allow the body the time, space and energy to balance.

  1. Reduce time spent in Digestion

When we keep our body busy in the work of digestion, it is simply unable to find the time, space or energy to complete critical balancing tasks like cleaning waste matter! This waste matter, putrefies and gives out harmful gases which increase the acidity in the body. Less we eat, as well as less number of times we eat, more alkaline we become.

  1. Replace Animal Foods with Whole Plant based foods

Refined foods are completely devoid of minerals, and everything that is digested in our body , requires the presence of minerals. Foods that have low or missing mineral content, cause loss of minerals from the body , as digestive process uses up a fair amount.
