The dictionary meaning of the word ‘haste’ is hurrying, excessive speed, the urgency of action. When it comes to pregnancy, you can be in a haste to get pregnant due to -

  1. Advancing age or

  2. Because you have been married for 3 / 5 / 7 years or maybe less or more than that or

  3. Because you are expected by your family members to get pregnant soon.

‘Speed thrills, but kills’. You must have heard this. If you drive really fast, you can meet with an accident. It could put your life in jeopardy. Even if you are the best driver in the world, you need to be careful because driving is not just about speed, it's also about balance. Depending on what hindrances come your way on the road, you have to reduce your speed or manoeuvre your way left or right or maybe you even have to stop at times.

A top, which is a toy called ‘lattoo’ in hindi, is a perfect example of speed & balance. When you spin the top, it moves very fast & is balanced on its tip that touches the floor. But what if the tip is broken? You spin the top assuming it will spin fast but since the tip is broken, the top can’t balance itself. Hence it will probably spin wibble wobble & then stop.

Similarly your fertility should not be driven by speed or hurry or haste. It should be driven by maintaining a balanced state of health & unfortunately haste interferes in that. Let’s see how -

1) Vitality

You are born with an innate vitality for life called prana shakti. You must conserve this vitality as much as possible & use it for fertility critical functions such as cleaning up accumulated toxins in your reproductive system, building healthy ovaries, healthy eggs or fallopian tubes, building a sperm-friendly environment in the uterus, creating hormonal balance, etc. Conserving vitality is like using your monthly salary or income judiciously so that you don’t run out of money. When you are in a haste to conceive, you are wasting your vitality on hurrying up, getting worried, getting stressed out.

2) Melatonin

If you are in a haste to conceive, in all likelihood you are under chronic stress. Your stress hormones adrenaline & cortisol spike. This has a negative impact on your sleep-inducing hormone called melatonin. When melatonin reduces, its ability to fight free radicals in your reproductive system reduces. What are free radicals? Imagine them as cells in your body that have gone rogue. They are the bad guys who latch on to the good healthy cells & corrupt them as well. You need the good guys, the good cells in your reproductive system to conceive. You need the bad guys to be out & therefore you need melatonin to go & neutralize these free radical rogue cells.

3) Spiritual health

Haste & pleasantness don’t go hand in hand. Who would you like to be with - someone who’s in a hurry, panicking almost always or someone who is at ease & seems to be in charge of the life? Your body is a way by which a new soul enters this world, the soul chooses you. That’s why when a couple becomes a parent, they say we have been ‘blessed’ with a boy/girl. So, if you want to be blessed, if you want the soul to choose you, be calm, happy & joyous.

Summary
Haste is a waste when it comes to trying to become pregnant. It takes away from your vitality, it causes unfavourable hormonal change & it depreciates your spiritual health. So ditch the haste & instead focus on balance. Work on improving your health quotient to achieve homeostasis - the body’s balanced state of being. Once your body is in balance, you will conceive! Haste will make your fertility journey frustrating, balance will make your fertility journey pleasant & fruitful.
