We all know that the human body is more than the sum of its parts. This article focuses on the tiny little nugget-like structures at the back of our throat that commonly is known to get swollen and often removed. Yes, it’s the tonsils.
What are tonsils?
Tonsils refer to a pair of lymph nodes or small masses of lymphoid tissue that lie on each side of the throat and that help protect the body. It is a part of the giant lymphatic system that helps in the elimination of wastes from the surrounding areas. It stands guard as the first line of defence to protect the body against dangers from food or air.
The function of the tonsils
The lymphatic system is one of the major liquid mediums to carry sewage from the body. Lymph nodes are collection points of toxins from their surrounding areas which eventually drain into the main channel. They contain beneficial bacteria that help break down the acids to be eliminated by the body. Tonsils, being lymph nodes, collect toxins that have accumulated in the head region as a buffer for a brief period, until proper elimination through skin and kidneys.
When the diet consumed is majorly acid and mucus forming, this creates inflammation and damages the kidney filtration and skin pores causing a backed-up lymphatic system. Piled up acids can corrode or degenerate tissues surrounding it, inviting more trouble from bacteria to feed on the dying tissues. Hence, the body decides to use other means such as tonsils to eliminate the excess in the head region to protect the brain.
Energetically, tonsils are a part of the throat chakra. Speaking the truth, feeling silenced, feeling that you are unheard are few reasons that can impact the nerve force and create a block. Choose your words carefully and always speak with kindness.
Inflammation of the tonsils
When tonsils become swollen and painful, you rush to a doctor and he might diagnose that to be TONSIL ‘ITIS’. ITIS is the suffix given to any part of the body that gets inflamed. TONSIL STONES are hardened acids that calcify and are then pushed out into the throat to be released through the mouth or GI tract as white or pale coloured, foul smelling solids. As described in my articles on microbiome, microbes in the tonsils are working to breakdown the excess and release it safely from the body. If they are swollen, you can be sure they are processing a lot of waste that has to be released. You may see some white spots or pus release from the cells on the surface during a healing crisis like cold, cough, fevers etc. This is bacteria working overtime to remove an excess of waste material from your body. Symptoms such as a painful sore throat, cold, earache, cough, difficulty in speaking, oral thrush or bleeding show up. Repeated ‘treatment’ of such issues with drugs or surgery can inflame other cells of the sinus, eyes, cause extra growths, impact the thyroid, larynx and in some cases cause brain damage.
Tonsilitis in children
Tonsillitis is incredibly common in children. In fact, almost every child will probably get tonsillitis at least once. If symptoms last around 10 days or less, it’s considered acute tonsillitis. If longer and frequent, it may be chronic, needing more attention. Children, in particular, get injected quite often and this disturbs their growing microbiome environment leading to a lot of inflammation in their head region (Ears, Nose, Throat) effectively thus swelling the tonsils. The GUT microbiome in kids is still developing, so the microbiome in the tonsils are working hard to protect the body. Hence, in the initial stages of life, the tonsils do its job effectively as a gatekeeper, but with constant stress and overworking, they eventually give-up paving way for bigger problems as adults.
Reasons for inflammation
Animal food – Tonsils become inflamed in childhood around the time when our bodies stop making lactase used to digest milk. Hence, dairy is one of the prominent mucus-forming foods along with its counterparts such as eggs, meat and seafood which has animal protein that the human body cannot process effectively thus leading to toxaemia.
Foods not suited for human consumption –Gluten, refined carbohydrates, processed foods, GMO foods (corn, soy), processed /artificial sweeteners, excess grains, fried foods are all acid and mucus forming.
Dehydration – One of the keys to a healthy lymphatic system is to ensure that the wastes are channelled to its rightful place. A stagnant lymphatic system means that the collection points are overflowing with wastes. It’s very important to drink at least 3-4lts of liquids in the form of juices and water especially when the body is overflowing with symptoms.
Traditional modes of treatment
Symptomatic treatment will kill the bacteria trying to eliminate the excess acids from the tonsils and reduce the inflammation. This sends the toxins deeper inside the cells and tissues. Over time the bacteria will repopulate to resume the pending work. Symptoms resurface, which if again suppressed, causes soreness and inflammation. After several visits to the doctor and maybe after several rounds of antibiotics, you are booked for a tonsillectomy which is a surgical procedure to remove them. Off late, the procedure is also done when the following symptoms are noticed
How to heal?
Removing an organ does not heal the cause! When the tonsils are absent, wastes remain in the head causing other complications including opening the fort gate for viruses to reach the body easily without any defence system in place at the entry. Gut dysbiosis and “autoimmune” conditions can also be expected to start with.
So, what do you do if your tonsils are frequently painful?
Conclusion
The solution to any inflammation is not the removal of a body part. Before any tissue death can occur, the body shows enough signs and symptoms to give us a chance to recover. Protect your tonsils by getting back to nature! Follow a low-fat, zero oil, gluten-free, high raw, whole food plant-based, nature synced lifestyle
