Darkness of skin is a hormonal phenomenon
Because it's regulated by melanin pigment and sunscreen is meant for protection of skin from UV rays so sunscreen can't reduce darkness but using sunscreen you can prevent your skin from getting darker
For lightning of skin u can use alovera pulp wt gulabjal
And papaya pulp massage on face it helps you
And for skin prevention use sunscreen 20 min before Sun exposure

They are not to be applied at all they cause more harm than good to the skin.
Also skin absorb everything we apply onto it and it penetrates deep down to our body only.
Try using natural things use Aloe Vera for the sun tan you can use cucumber which is one of the best cooling agent. Potatoes also tomatoes juice can be used for best results.
Sun is our best friend and the nature's greatest doctor you need not to fear sun. In our Vedas Sun is addressed as Surya Narayana how can God harm us. We and everything else in the nature cannot exist without sun.

No sunscreen is good on the skin which has been manufactured by combining various chemical components. The skin gets dark in the sun because of the toxins present in our body. It's better to keep the body clean from inside so that the sweat doesn't have toxins coming out of it and reaction with the suns rays and darkening the skin.
Whatever you apply on the skin gets absorbed into the body and the blood has to process those chemicals and try to get rid of it. It becomes extra work for our body.
Two things you can use on your skin which are natural

Sunscreens are believed to protect your skin from burns which is a short term effect of its radiation. There are two types of UV rays from the sun, UV-A and UV-B . A broad spectrum Sun screen protects from both types of radiation. The physical protection by reflecting the sun's rays, due to the actions of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide and they also contain some organic compounds which absorb the harmful rays. Go for a SPF of 30, which provides 97% protection and it should be applied 20 minutes before going out, and if you are being exposed throughout the day then you have to apply it every two hours.
My opinion is never use a sunscreen, it's made up of chemicals which may itself cause allergies and even cancer. A simple rule of thumb, is to ask yourself a question, " can I swallow ,what I have applied on my skin(in this case the sunscreen lotion or ointment)"...if you are hesitant , and think how can I swallow these dangerous chemicals, they are toxic and poisonous....yeah, if they are toxic and can't be swallowed, then definitely they are toxic on your skin too. Still if you believe the natural sun shine is harmful, which truly isn't harmful in any way and is beneficial in many ways, especially for the manufacture of vitamin D. When sunscreen is applied your skin loses the ability to produce vitamin D. If you are very doubtful about the harmful effects of the sun's rays, apply coconut oil, which is good for your skin, nourishing and protecting, and the same time it still helps in vitamin D synthesis.

As per the nature cure application of Suncreen is not recommended on the skin.
Skin color is due to the presence of a pigment named Melanin. And it is controlled by genes in the body.
Body produces this naturally to protect you from the harmful rays.
Both light and dark Complexioned people have Melanin.
Yes you can improve in your skin color by improving the health of your cells.. But there is no guarantee on same..
However, by following a natural lifestyle you can improve skin health in general and may reduce your overall risk for developing any skin problems.

कोई भी क्रीम धूप से बचने के लिए प्रयोग करना ठीक नहीं है। त्वचा का अस्वस्थ होने का कारण हमारे पाचन तंत्र का स्वस्थ ना होना है।
फल, कच्चे सब्ज़ी का सलाद और जूस को अपना मुख्य आहार बनाएँ।
अपने खाने में नमक सेंधा लें। नमक की मात्रा कम रखें पुरे दिन में केवल एक बार नमक और पका हुआ खाना लें। चीनी के जगह गुड़ लें।
जानवरों से उपलब्ध होने वाले भोजन वर्जित हैं।
तेल, मसाला, और गेहूँ से परहेज़ करेंगे तो अच्छा होगा।
लंबा गहरा स्वाँस अंदर भरें और रुकें। इसके बाद फिर पूरे तरीक़े से स्वाँस को ख़ाली करें, रुकें, फिर स्वाँस अंदर भरें। ये एक चक्र हुआ। ऐसे 10 चक्र एक समय पर करना है। ये दिन में चार बार करें।
सूर्य उदय के एक घंटे बाद या सूर्य अस्त के एक घंटे पहले का धूप शरीर को ज़रूर लगाएँ। सर और आँख को किसी सूती कपड़े से ढक कर। जब भी लेंटे अपना दायाँ भाग ऊपर करके लेटें ताकि आपकी सूर्य नाड़ी सक्रिय रहे।
त्वचा का जो हिस्सा काला पड़ गया है उसे कपुर मिश्रित नारियल तेल से घड़ी की सीधी दिशा (clockwise) में और घड़ी की उलटी दिशा (anti clockwise)में मालिश करें। नरम हाथों से बिल्कुल भी प्रेशर नहीं दें।
खीरा+एलोवेरा का पल्प का पेस्ट वंहा लगाएँ जंहा परेशानी है। 20मिनट के लिए लगाएँ।
त्वचा को गुलाब जल + बेसन और हल्दी से साफ़ करें। साबुन या कोई भी क्रीम का प्रयोग बंद कर दें।
नहाने के पानी में ख़ुशबू वाले फूलों का रस मिलाएँ। नींबू या पुदीना का रस मिला सकते हैं।खाना खाने से एक घंटे पहले नाभि के ऊपर गीला सूती कपड़ा लपेट कर रखें या खाना के 2 घंटे बाद भी ऐसा कर सकते हैं।
मेरुदंड (स्पाइन) सीधा करके बैठें। हमेशा इस बात ध्यान रखें। हफ़्ते में 3 दिन मेरुदंड का स्नान करें। मेरुदंड स्नान के लिए अगर टब ना हो तो एक मोटा तौलिया गीला कर लें बिना निचोरे उसको बिछा लें।अपने मेरुदंड को उस पर रखें।
नहाने के पानी में ख़ुशबू वाले फूलों का रस मिलाएँ। नींबू या पुदीना का रस मिला सकते हैं। नीम का रस भी बहुत फ़ायदा करेगा।

I would say you can try making sunscreen at home. The recipe for sunscreen includes Organic Aloe Vera gel, organic almond oil, coconut oil, organic saffron 4-5 strands) and just a very tiny pinch of sun dried orange peel (this has to be powdered). The orange peel needs to be dried in the sun for atleast 5-6 days before it can be powdered. Kindly mix all the ingredients together till it can form a paste. You can apply this 30 minutes before going out in the sun. This sunscreen can be applied 3-4 times a day at a span of 4 hours starting in the morning.
