How to get rid of antidepressants?

Hello,

Antidepressants are used to treat the depression. 

What is depression?

It is a mental disorder which is usually ignored by the people. The patient feels lonely, sad, and hopeless. 

Symptoms 

  • Feeling lonely 
  • Loss of interest in all the activities. 
  • Slowness in work and activities 
  • Loss of concentration 
  • Decreased confidence 
  • Fear from people 
  • Mood swings 
  • Weight loss or weight gain 
  • Excessive sleep or sleeplessness 

 

What should be done?

 

Diet

 

  • Have only plant based natural foods. 
  • Avoid spicy foods,oily foods,packaged and processed foods. 
  • Avoid tea, coffee and other caffeinated drinks 
  • Have salads, sprouts,nuts,vegetables, fruits in your diet. 
  • Never skip your meals.

Sleep

 

Have a good quality sleep of 7-8 hours.Sleep is important for the repair and rest of our body. Don't compromise on your sleep but don't over sleep.

 

Hydration

 

Staying hydrated is also important for us.Drink enough amount of water throughout the day. Also,have coconut water, fresh fruit juices. 

 

Exercise 

 

Engage in some physical activities. It is important for our metabolism as well as for our mental health. It improves the blood circulation in the whole body.

Some asanas are also very beneficial like shirsha asana, parvata asana,gomukh asana.

 

Meditation 

 

Do meditation for atleast 20 min daily in the morning.

 

Also,perform bhramri pranayam regularly. 

 

Social behavior 

 

Spend time with your friends and relatives. Don't stay alone.Go out and meet them.It is very important. You might feel like to be alone but this will not help.

Be with your loved ones ,their support will help a lot.

 

Stress free

 

Being stress free is very important for someone who is already facing a mental issue like depression. So just stay away from the people and atmosphere which makes you more worried and more stressed. 

 

Be with the ones who makes you feel good about you.

If you are not bed ridden, kindly switch to a completely raw lifestyle with just fruits greens and veg juices. Don’t even think of cooked food. In depression what would have happened is, your older lifestyle with a lot of emotional drainage would have led to a vitality or energy drain and toxin accumulation on a physical level would have continued for a long period. You see brain cells consume 3X more oxygen compared to the other cells, so any emotional drain is like running video on your cell for a long period. Digestion and using the brain / mentally thinking on a negative level drains the battery. However if you were a chess player and you are playing a game, that’s not a drain, it’s a positive growth . So, in your case since you might have used it for negative thinking majorly, your physical body is also taxed.

So few things you have to consciously attempt are the following

1) Juice veggies / have a lot of fruits as your meals as much as possible all 2-3 meals per day or more if needed as per the call of hunger . These are positive life giving foods. They will bring life back into the bad communications happening between gut and brain.

2) Start doing yoga and pranayama along with the point 1 for about 1 hour. Yoga alone or point 1 alone may not be effective in isolation. Do both

3) Sun light exposure for 1 hour with gratitude to the sun. If you have a park nearby, walk barefoot on grass and appreciate the selfless elements around you who don’t expect anything from human beings even if you stamp them. In return they give you a feeling of grounding with Mother Earth and improves your being.

4) Mandatorily sleeping early so that between 10-2am you are in the deep sleep

5) Understand and introspect why you started getting depressed few years back. Is it the people around you / situations around you ? Know that it’s all happening for your good. To improve your soul. Listen to Louise Hay / bk Shivani and such people and understand the deeper meaning of your experiences and implement what they say.

You can find 10 people around you advising 10 ways to get out of depression, but you have to consciously try a method that you feel is right. Before you heal mentally, you have to clean your body and slowly clean the mind. You have to now go in reverse. To make the mind think positive, you have to clean the body first. When you got toxaemia, your thoughts and energy field became diseased and that led to body contamination. But now you have to address body cleaning first and slowly get to the mind. Over time the mind, body and spirit will be cleaned and you will be free of depression

समाधान - भ्रामरी प्राणायाम,ताड़ासन, नटराजासन

वृक्षासन,हस्तपादासन, सर्वांगासन, हलासन, पवन-मुक्तासन, अनुलोम-विलोम प्राणायाम करें।

प्रतिदिन आप ख़ुद को प्यार दें अपने बारे में 10 अच्छी बातें कोरे काग़ज़ पर लिख कर और प्रकृति को अपने होने का धन्यवाद दें।

मानसिक समस्या भी इसी शरीर की समस्या है सब कुछ इस बात पर निर्भर करता है कि हम किसी भी परिस्थिति में सकारात्मक सोंच रखते हैं या नकारात्मक।

2 वायु तत्व- लंबा गहरा स्वाँस अंदर भरें और रुकें फिर पूरे तरीक़े से स्वाँस को ख़ाली करें रुकें फिर स्वाँस अंदर भरें ये एक चक्र हुआ। ऐसे 10 चक्र एक टाइम पर करना है। ये दिन में चार बार करें।

अपने कमरे में ख़ुशबू दार फूलों को रखें।

3 अग्Iनि तत्व- सूर्य उदय के एक घंटे बाद या सूर्य अस्त के एक घंटे पहले का धूप शरीर को ज़रूर लगाएँ। सर और आँख को किसी सूती कपड़े से ढक कर। जब भी लेंटे अपना दायाँ भाग ऊपर करके लेटें ताकि आपकी सूर्य नाड़ी सक्रिय रहे।

4 जल तत्व- 4 पहर का स्नान करें। सुबह सूर्य उदय से पहले, दोपहर के खाने से पहले, शाम को सूर्यअस्त के बाद, और रात सोने से पहले स्नान करें। नहाने के पानी में ख़ुशबू वाले फूलों का रस मिलाएँ। नींबू या पुदीना का रस मिला सकते हैं।खाना खाने से एक घंटे पहले नाभि के ऊपर गीला सूती कपड़ा लपेट कर रखें या खाना के 2 घंटे बाद भी ऐसा कर सकते हैं।

मेरुदंड (स्पाइन) सीधा करके बैठें। हमेशा इस बात ध्यान रखें और हफ़्ते में 3 दिन मेरुदंड का स्नान करें। मेरुदंड स्नान के लिए अगर टब ना हो तो एक मोटा तौलिया गीला कर लें बिना निचोरे उसको बिछा लें और अपने मेरुदंड को उस स्थान पर रखें। 

सर पर सूती कपड़ा बाँध कर उसके ऊपर खीरा और मेहंदी या करी पत्ते का पेस्ट लगाएँ,नाभि पर खीरा का पेस्ट लगाएँ।पैरों को 20 मिनट के लिए सादे पानी से भरे किसी बाल्टी या टब में डूबो कर रखें।

5 पृथ्वी- सब्ज़ी, सलाद, फल, मेवे, आपका मुख्य आहार होगा। आप सुबह खीरे का जूस लें, खीरा 1/2 भाग +धनिया पत्ती (10 ग्राम) पीस लें, 100 ml पानी मिला कर पीएँ। 2 घंटे बाद फल नाश्ते में लेना है।

दोपहर में 12 बजे फिर से इसी जूस को लें। इसके एक घंटे बाद खाना खाएँ। शाम को नारियल पानी लें फिर 2 घंटे तक कुछ ना लें। रात के सलाद में हरे पत्तेदार सब्ज़ी को डालें, नारियल की गिरि मिलाएँ।

लाल, हरा, पीला शिमला मिर्च 1/4 हिस्सा हर एक का मिलाएँ।इसे बिना नमक के खाएँ, बहुत फ़ायदा होगा।सेंधा नमक केवल एक बार पके हुए खाने में लें। जानवरों से उपलब्ध होने वाले भोजन वर्जित हैं।

तेल, मसाला, और गेहूँ से परहेज़ करेंगे तो अच्छा होगा। चीनी के जगह गुड़ लें।

एक नियम हमेशा याद रखें ठोस(solid) खाने को चबा कर तरल (liquid) बना कर खाएँ। तरल  को मुँह में घूँट घूँट पीएँ। खाना ज़मीन पर बैठ कर खाएँ। खाते वक़्त ना तो बात करें और ना ही TV और mobile को देखें।ठोस  भोजन के तुरंत बाद या बीच बीच में जूस या पानी ना लें। भोजन हो जाने के एक घंटे बाद तरल पदार्थ  ले सकते हैं।

हफ़्ते में एक दिन उपवास करें। शाम तक केवल पानी लें, प्यास लगे तो ही पीएँ। शाम 5 बजे नारियल पानी और रात 8 बजे सलाद लें।

Antidepressants are drugs commonly used to treat major or severe depression and chronic anxiety disorders. They have multiple side effects which can cause more harm to your body and leave the body in bad shape. One can always get off such medications with certain changes in food and lifestyle habits such as ;

Stress-free Diet;

• Eating a healthy and regular diet is crucial to insulate your body from blood sugar fluctuations that can make the stress, anxiety and depression ( SAD) symptoms worse. Any nutritional deficiency can worsen the condition in susceptible people. Be sure to include lots of fruits and vegetables in your diet. During periods of high stress, it is tempting to increase the consumption of sweet foods, coffee and caffeinated drinks and alcohol. All of these can make a SAD situation worse, not better. 

Good gut care ;

Get sufficient fibre rich food to ensure proper gut care, consume plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, seeds and nuts. Eat that is fresh and healthy. In stress and anxiety disorders unhealthy eating habits can lead to excess weight gain and make you body filled with morbid matters. 

Go for stress-busting Exercise;

• Physical exercise is one of the best ways to reduce stress. Exercise is also the best cure for anxiety and depression. The problem is that most depressed people are too tired or unmotivated to even go for a walk. Try going for a walk, brisk walk or jogging every morning and you'll notice the better changes in you. Seek help from a certified practitioner and practice yoga asana, pranayama and meditation. It can help you improve your physical and mental condition.

Body hygiene;

Take bath regularly, grooming or trimming regularly and wearing good clothes can make you feel better and relaxed.

• Try taking full body massage. You'll feel much better from within.

Sleep for Stress ;

Usually, the first thing to go during SAD episodes is sleep. Good sleeping patterns must be preserved at all costs during periods of high stress. Try to get a minimum of 6-8 hours undisturbed sleep. Good sleep hygiene techniques include not watching TV, using the computer or any electronic device in the hour before sleep. Keeping the room cool and dark during the night also assists good sleep.

Stay connected ;

Stay Connected with the people around, a good talk with a family member or good friend is very therapeutic for everyday stress. If the stress is severe or prolonged, then seeing a professional for counselling or therapy is an excellent investment.

All problems first start in the either in the mind or the gut. The gut is sometimes even known as the " second mind". It is therefore important to eat healthy to maintain a healthy gut.

When we are under stress the body produces the stress hormone called adrenaline, also known as the " fight or flight " hormone. Constant stress releases the production of cortisol, another stress hormone. This constant stress always puts the body in sympathetic mode, wherein it is unable to repair and heal itself. These hormones are not only produced when under stress, but also when we consume too much of caffeine.

It is extremely important that you consume a healthy diet rich in fruits and raw vegetables. Fruits and vegetables contain essential vitamins and minerals which are required for the normal functioning of many hormones, neurotransmitters and a whole lot of other bodily functions. Stay away from all sugary foods, animal foods and processed foods. They all on digestion produce free radicals which in turn disturb the hormonal cycle. Sugary foods produce sudden spikes in blood sugar levels, which in turn affect the homeostasis of the body. Proper sleep and physical activity are equally important. They induce the production of "happy hormones", melatonin and serotonin. This allows the body to repair and heal naturally. Spending time in nature, like gardening, exposure to sunlight is also helpful. All these activities induce the production of serotonin.

Apart from this meditation and deep breathing, focus on your breath are important tools to help you overcome anxiety and negative thoughts.

Depression is a mood disorder, as feelings of sadness, loss, or anger that interfere with a person’s everyday activities.  It is caused due to wrong life style, biological, environmental, and psychosocial issues.

This good to know that you are planning to stop antidepressants, plan to slow tapered the medicine as per your physician advice.

Please take care of the withdrawal symptoms like, headache, nausea, vomiting, giddiness, irritation and insomnia etc. by natural therapies like hot foot bath for headache, diet modification to reduce nausea and vomiting.

Exercise and other therapies

  • Regular exercise like walking, jogging, cardiac workouts help to improve your serotonin level and helps to relieve depression.
  • Get 7-8 hours of sleep daily.
  • Building strong relationships (friends and relatives).
  • Massage: Massage helps to reduce stress and anxiety and leads to good mental health and prevents depression.
  • Pet - animal companions are seriously good for your health, they helps to relax you mentally and helps in relieving depression.

Diet Modification.

 Yogasana and Pranayamas: Regular practice of asanas like, padmasana, vajrasana, tadasana vrikshasana, veerbhadrasana,  etc helps to focus the mind and relieves depression.

Pranayam like nadi shuddhi, bhramari and ujjayi heslp to reduce depression .

Relaxation techniques and deep breathing techniques also more beneficial.        

Chanting mantras and doing bhajans also helpful for improving your mental health.
