How can I cure dandruff? Please suggest.

The medical term for dandruff is Seborrheic dermatitis, it is characterized by scaly patches and layers of the skin which gets peeled off. The main causes of dandruff are the increasing pollution nowadays and the chemical-based products we use throughout the day.

So to start with treatment the first thing that we need to do is to avoid all the chemical-based products which we need to completely avoid as those products contain things like parabens and sulphur which are causative agents for dermatitis.

The next main thing to depend upon, keeping hygiene make sure you wash your hair alternate days this will help in preventing dermatitis after the cure. Massaging your hair well with oil before hair wash also helps in the prevention of dandruff.

Home remedies for Dandruff:

  • Tea tree oil is the best and dependable thing to deal with tea tree oil. Using coconut oil and tea tree oil together will help in dealing with dandruff easily.
  • Aloe vera gel, this is also a dependable thing. Extract of real aloe vera gel helps in the reduction of dandruff.
  • Castor oil is also a good remedy for prevention of dandruff using it with a lighter oil like almond or coconut will help in curing dandruff. 
  • Apply methi seeds powder with lemon juice and use this pack twice a week this acts not only on dandruff but also on hair growth.
  • Onion juice is another antibacterial agent which gives shine.

Hi,
Dandruff is due to a change in skin ph.and due to dryness and dehydration. Keep the scalp always neutral. Too much moist and too much dryness to be avoided.

To get rid of dandruff follow a healthy lifestyle.

  • Fresh vegetables, such as tomatoes, carrots, apricots, sweet potatoes, spinach,  and other green leafy vegetables and fresh seasonal fruits Including nuts and dry fruits.
  • Keep hair hydrated avoid too much dryness or too much moisture.
  • Use coconut oil, sesame oil or castor oil to keep hydrated.
  • Avoid tea and coffee.  
  • Avoid fast food, maida, and fried items.
  • Avoid using shampoos and conditioners to clean hair.
  • Avoid processed foods and dairy products as these can cause pimples. 
  • Make sure you exercise regularly as this can help replenish your skin. 
  • Take adequate rest as stress can also lead to breakouts.
  • Sleep at least 6-7 hrs per day.
  • Do physical activities like jogging walking swimming etc. 
  • Avoid stress by doing regulations yoga, Pranayam and meditation.

Keep the hair clean to avoid dandruff:

  • Use natural shampoo and conditioner like shikakai, soap nut powder,  Reetha, etc.
  • Reetha or soapnut berries- take 2-3 teaspoons of Reetha powder mix it with hot water. Keep it for 5-10 mins. Then apply it on your scalp and hair, massage for a few mins and rinse.
  • Shikakai is a natural cleanser. Use powder of shikakai.  Mix with hot water and make a paste.  Apply on the scalp and hair.  It helps to maintain the ph, it cleanses the hair without stripping of natural oil in hair.

Regularly apply hair oil and maintain ph. to get relieved from dandruff. 

  • Use amla oil, curry leaves oil and hibiscus oil to prevent white hair.
  • Apply honey, lemon juice.  Add 2 teaspoon lemon 2 teaspoons of coconut oil and apply in scalp and hair. Massage for a few minutes and keep it for 30 mins then rinse.
  • Amla Hair oil: Cut Amla into pieces and dry it in shadow.   Now heat coconut oil or sesame oil and put the amla, continue heating in medium flame until the bubbles disappear. Now remove and cool down the oil, store in an airtight container and use daily.
  • Fenugreek paste: Soak 3-4 tsp of fenugreek seeds overnight, grind it and make a paste. Apply it on the scalp and keep it for 20-30 mins then rinse. Do it twice or thrice in a week.
  • Aloe Vera-fresh juice creates good foam, apply the foam on your scalp and hair. Massage for a few mins. then rinse.

The scalp is a part of the skin. Skin can eliminate when the body has accumulated a lot of toxins and the excretory organs are also sluggish. I had dandruff and have reversed it with plant-based lifestyle changes.

You need to first eliminate all animal products like meat dairy eggs fish and consciously start consuming a lot of juice and fruits on a daily basis until dinner. Avoid eating excess grains too. This will address the issue. Excess acidity build-up causes dandruff that would become unmanageable

Make the following lifestyle changes:

Follow this:-

Wash your hair with cold water every 2-3 days with the following hair wash and quit chemical shampoos.This can be prepared once a week and refrigerated and used for both body and hair.

Morning on an empty stomach:

  • Celery juice 500 ml filtered / ash gourd juice/cucumber juice/ Green juice with any watery vegetables like ash gourd /cucumber/ridge gourd/bottle gourd/carrot/ beet with ginger and lime filtered/ tender coconut water or more pure veggie juice.

Afternoon from 12:-

  • A bowl of fruits - don’t mix melons and other fruits. Eat melons alone. Eat citrus fruits alone.

  • Followed by a bowl of veg salad.

  • Dinner 2-3 hrs before sleep with Gluten-free, oil-free, 30% unpolished grains or dals and 70% veggies.

  • Include some exercises that involve moving all your parts (neck, shoulder, elbows, wrist, hip bending. twisting, squats, knees, ankles )

  • See if u can go to the morning sun for at least in a day 30 mins in a day.

  • Ensure that you are asleep between 10-2 which is when the body needs deep sleep.

What to Avoid:-

  • Avoid refined oils, fried food, packaged ready to eat foods, dairy in any form including ghee, refined salt, and sugar, gluten, refined oils meat, eggs, fish, coffee, tea, alcohol, and oils in any form.

  • Avoid mental stress by not thinking about things you cannot control. The present is inevitable. The future can be planned. Stay happy. Happiness is only inside yourself. Dandruff is a health condition that affects mainly the scalp which causes flakes of skin to appear. Dandruff causes irritation of the scalp and it is often accompanied by itching. The exact cause of dandruff is unknown, but various factors increase the risk. It is not related to poor hygiene, but it may be more visible if a person does not wash or brush their hair often. Some of the causes include stress that causes increased sebaceous secretions which causes the formation of the white flakes over the scalp region. It might be sometimes caused due to some side reactions of some drugs that one might be using for a long time, namely medications of hypertension, diabetes, etc.

Dandruff affects adolescent ages than other age groups.

Dandruff could be embarrassing and hard to treat, but help is available. This could cause some type of social stigma.

Management of dandruff aims to stop dandruff by bringing down the reproduction of skin cells or counteraction of the yeast that produces which is believed to be the cause.

The strategy of management depends on the patient's age and how severe the condition is. However, by making some changes in lifestyle associated with some home remedies could help.

Some strategies are

  1. Manage stress: Stress, that is believed to trigger dandruff in some people, could be a way to reduce symptoms.
  2. Herbal Shampoo more often: Use herbal shampoos and it is always better to avoid chemical-based shampoos. Secondly, if you have oily hair and scalp, make a habit to wash your hair and scalp daily which could help.
  3. Expose to Sunlight: A little exposure to sunlight on a daily basis could be helpful.
  4. Apply Tea tree oil: Scientific evidence is very little on this measure but in some cases, applications of tea tree oil have helped a lot. Sometimes, It can cause allergic reactions in some people, so use caution before use. You may apply on the dorsal side of the palm as a test dose before applying it on the scalp. If you found no adverse reaction, then you may go with this method, else abandon it.
