Dear Chandramika,
Yogic practices of Asana, pranayamas, Antarmauna, and yognidra are said to be very effective in addressing the forgetfulness and also providing a lasting cure for depression. There could be various reasons for forgetfulness. One of them is not paying attention or giving importance to the activity that we undertake. It is easy to say that love your work or love what you do but it doesn't happen easily. We have to see why anything that is of disinterest or not of our liking repels us. There could be a difficult boss or a teacher or parent or sibling who may be impatient or an unfavorable situation at home. Two practices, Yognidra and antarmauna help in addressing depression. In yognidra, start with rotating awareness in different parts of the body. After the body rotation, visualize your assertive responses with a difficult person or in a difficult situation. Visualizing yourself as an unaffected person in a challenging situation is effective when you actually face the situation. Taking the resolve in yognidra to become more organized gradually is also very effective.
Besides these two mental practices, Shashank asana or rabbit pose, Gaumukh asana, Padmasana and Sushupt Shashank asana are effective. Bhramri Pranayama is very effective. That can be done even while sitting in the office on a chair. Place the index finger of both your left and right hand in the cartilage of your respective ear. Make sure that the nail doesn't hurt the inner layer of the ear. The ear tube must be covered with the surface of the index fingers, not the nail. Take a deep breath in and make the bumblebee like sound while exhaling. Keep the lips slightly separated to feel the vibration while pronouncing the sound of hmmmmm. This practice is very effective. By pronouncing hmmm, the brain secretes melatonin which in fighting depression. Limiting your screen time is also recommended.
For forgetfulness, expecting the limitations is a healthy mental practice you should try. Also taking and making a note, using the help of digital aids, Google calendar, etc. to keep your days organized is recommended.
Dear health seeker Chandramika,
This issue of forgetfulness can be a PRECURSOR to, Amnesia, dementia on account of some triggers to the kind of overwhelming stress. The stress may be caused by experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event, accident or disaster, or a person may experience inner conflict so intolerable that his mind is forced to separate incompatible or unacceptable information and feelings from conscious thoughts. If the person in question is healthy enough his mind is quite capable of taking care of this eventuality calmly in his stride and is least affected by the rough conditions. We say "Let the mind help you ride off the rough weather like a Steadfast " You must understand that saints sages gurus have the great mental strength to bear stresses quite easily. Now from where they get their mental health? Through a highly disciplined and hygienic lifestyle. Eating to live and not live to eat.

Depression (major depressive disorder) is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act. Fortunately, it is also treatable. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease a person’s ability to function at work and at home.
Research studies have shown that depression has been linked to memory problems, such as asforgetfulnessor confusion. It can also make it difficult to focus on work or other tasks, make decisions, or think clearly. Stress and anxiety can also lead to poor memory. Depression is associated with short-term memory loss.
Some of the causes might be due to genetics or hereditary, biochemical, environmental or social, sored relationships etc
Conventional management might be by antidepressants, antipsychotics, cognitive behavioral therapy and electroconvulsive therapy etc in advanced cases.
Some self practices might be as follows:
- Exercising regularly could beat up your depressive moods.
- Try to relax with some leisure activities like hobbies of your interest, travel, socialising, gardening, pets etc
- Meditation could also work and try practising under a trained guide who could teach you basic skills to master meditation.
- Yoga has a vital role to play and under yoga therapist, if you could practice Yoga it could really help you get out of the medications
- Music Therapy - It could be defined either listening to music, playing any musical instruments or singing as this could also help you beat up your mood swings that are common in depression.
- Undergoing Naturopathy treatments under registered naturopaths could be useful and also provide counselling sessions.
- Mind exercises or games that could train your brain could be helpful. Games that challenge your brain may help you strengthen your memory and may even reduce the risk of dementia.
- Get exposed to Sunlight for Vit-D. Vitamin-D deficiency is very common, especially in colder climates, and has been associated with age-related cognitive decline and dementia.
A counselling session with a psychologist or psychiatrist could be of great use.
