I have recently purchased Moringa powder. I wish to know how to consume it? Also, can it be consumed during summer months in North India?

Hi. You can sprinkle it on your veggie salads as a flavouring, just like one can sprinkle some oregano or seeds. You can also add it to steamed veggies, soups, veggie juices. You can also add it to coconut water to bring a change in taste!!

Having it in summers or not - I don't think it matters if your overall intake of water-rich foods, i.e. fruits & raw veggies is high. In any case, don't overdo. It shouldn't be that suddenly you are excited about this new purchase & are adding it to multiple things you eat in a day :-). Half to 1 tsp a day per day should be fine.

Not sure about the summer part but I use moringa powder in smoothies and soups. You can also add it to curries.

I once saw a documentary on TV where in Africa they used moringa powder by sprinkling it on basically all kinds of dishes to combat vitamin deficiency.

Anyway, moringa or drumstick tree is very easy to grow. Just get a branch cutting and stick it in the ground and soon it starts growing and sprouts new leaves. It grows fast too. In fact in south India, it was grown in every backyard. It can be cut again and again and it just regrows. Why spend money on store-bought moringa powder when you can use fresh moringa leaves?

Hi! Moringa leaves are believed to have high nutritive value and healing powers. I hope the powder you have bought has been obtained by drying the fresh leaves in shade. That's the best way to preserve their nutrients. The powder is very easy to use - you could simply add it to your vegetable juices or even soups. Brew some moringa powder and sip it as a tea. For kids, its fairly simple (and fuss-free!) to add the powder to their curries or dal or dal-rice.

It is advisable to use the Moringa powder in moderation and it can be consumed during the summer months. But in case you are apprehensive of using it in the summer months, you may avoid it or use it mindfully. Each individual body is unique and may respond to a given food item differently. Hence its is always important to watch out how your body is responding to any food item, even the ones known to have great health benefits.
