Read moreNose bleeding medically is called as epistaxis.Causes could be many including dry heated indoor air, respiratory infections, irritants etc which can be cured by various methods:-
- Cold compress:-Holding cold compress against the nose can help to prevent the bleeding.
- Pinch the nose and along with this nutritional adequacy should be taken into consideration like Vitamin K rich foods(eg kale, broccoli, spinach, cabbage etc) And Vitamin C rich foods.
- Saline water would be beneficial too.
- Cayenne pepper also regulates the blood flow
- Nettle leaves are the best herbal remedy
- Stay hydrated along with that immediate action could include putting water on hair.
Nose bleeds are not natural and the reasons could be many. It can occur in cases where people have high bp or in other cases it can happen to adults or kids alike. It usually happens because the mucosal membrane of the person would have weakened either by a previous condition such as cold or nose picking. In many cases it’s also seen that the nose just bled and they did not have a cold too. It’s called epistaxis if it occurs frequently and not a one off case. It’s majorly because of a wrong lifestyle that makes the nasal mucosa weak. The nasal vessels would have ruptured because it’s weak. In some cases it could be due to some injury in the head region. If no such incidents have happened, then it’s not ok to think once it’s gone, it may not come back. Unless you address the cause, and you have seen that it has happened more than once and you have not seen a pattern, it’s time to relook at the lifestyle being led.
Immediate action :-
When such things happen, let the child sit upright first.
Keep a cooling wet cloth like a turkey towel on the abdomen, one on the neck ( wound by a safety pin) and in the forehead. This will alternate the Cool and warm regions in the body and enable healthy blood circulation and stop the bleeding. Continue this 2-3 times in a day for 10 mins each and ensure the cloth is cold and not warm. If it becomes warm, then make it cold and reapply. Have only tender coconut water and seasonal fruits for one whole day preferably.
To avoid this in future :-
Enema and sunbathing has to be done frequently.
Add a lot of raw leafy greens, seasonal fruits and veggies in the diet. Eliminate diary, refined sugar, refined oils, maida, chiroti rawa and regular sooji, eggs and meat from the diet. This also means that packaged ready to eat foods that contain the same must be avoided too. Continue with the abdominal packs atleast once daily along with Enema. The incorrect blood chemistry will be corrected and body will fix itself and epistaxis will disappear. It’s important to not neglect this because it’s a sign the body gives while it can be fixed. If allopathy/ Ayurvedic / homeo herbs or meds are used to stop it today, it can become chronic in future leading to other complications in the head region. Pls don’t use treatments like jala nethi in such cases. For a few weeks when symptoms are severe keep the child on a heavy raw diet with lots of natural juices and coconut water and fruits. Salads too. If cooked is given, let it be whole without any refined polished grains or oils of any kind. Leading a natural lifestyle will remove this condition. Pranayama like anulom-Vilom can be done. Don’t do kaphalabhathi for this condition as it can be violent. The child might get constipated when he switches to high raw.. continue the enema after natural potty when it happens naturally. If fevers occur it’s a good sign that it’s healing. Continue to be on liquids and nose bleeds or epistaxis will be history.
Nose bleeding can occur due to various reasons like frequent picking up of nose, deficiency of moisture, chronic allergies, frequent use of decongestant, presence of polyp.
For its prevention, use saline nasal spray . You can make this at home by simply adding 1 spoon of salt in a glass of clean water. Use this 2 times daily .
Apply ice pack over and arround your nose .
This happens due to over heat generated in the body and dehydration.
Increase water intake, like giving coconut water and soaked almond gum one spoon and drink morning empty stomach. This helps to overcome body heat and once in a week oil head bath with sesame oil is very good.
Also avoid non veg and increase fruits..
Nose bleeding occurs because there are a number of blood vessels in our nose. When they are not enough lubricated , nasal mucosa gets dried up and this causes rupturing of these vessels.
The very immediate action must be Maintainance of correct posture and application of ice pack.
There are more chances of nosebleeds during summers because of heat and sunlight . One effective way to prevent this is take a dried coconut and cut it into two equal parts. Keep it in water filled earthen pot for 24 hours. Consume it slice by slice.
I used to get them too as a kid. But do not tilt the head backwards. Head down and pinch nose gently to close it and breathe through mouth till it stops so that it doesn’t go in the mouth. Cold packs/ Multani mitti helps.
Take it easy it’s normal. We do stick tissue up the nose like a plug (sticking out so you can pull it out and change it) and keep head LOWERED! Bending head backwards just makes blood flow into the mouth giving child a bigger fright as they are tasting blood. Nose plugs are funny and my daughters just laugh and now my 6yr old can deal with nose bleed without our help with toilet tissue. And we don’t show any panic so they are not worried even if blood is on their clothing or hands. The cause of the bleed is probably a dry bugger and kids usually don’t admit to picking them. If it’s a sudden bleed “out of nowhere” give her a glass of water, stay out of heat. I would suggest putting a little sprinkle of salt to water too, with dehydration we loose sodium so only a tiny bit helps to restore that.
Hi! You can read responses to a similar query here.
Hi. I used to have this problem as a kid. My parents use to make me sit with my face upwards (towards the room ceiling) & keep putting cold water on my head till bleeding stopped. I would breathe through the mouth all this while.
As a kid, such episodes shake you up. So pls ensure you are there for your child. Give her a lot of love & comfort. Show her a lot of confidence & positivity in dealing with the situation.
Eventually, the home remedy that worked for me was multaani mitti. During summers, I used to wet it in water & inhale its smell deeply. I would sometimes even put it on my nose or forehead. It felt cooling. I did this every morning without fail & soon nose bleeding was a thing of the past. Try it pls. God bless your daughter.
Hi please pour cold water on the head till the bleeding stops. This happens to some kids when the temperatures are too high. Keep the kid well hydrated. Give him lots of coconut water, watermelon and other citrus fresh fruit juices without sugar.
Please don’t go into the hot sun without a cap. Drink a glass of water before going out in the hot sun.
All of these are temporary remedies. If you want you your child to be not affected by the extreme weather changes, then please keep him off junk good. Feed him lots of seasonal fruits and veggies. Keep him well hydrated. See to it that his bowels are active and eliminating filth regularly.
