So some time back I replaced my regular salt to sea salt. But every time I refill my salt in the container I come across this line in bold and caps on the box “THIS SALT DOES NOT CONTAIN IODINE A NECESSARY NUTRIENT! ” So should I not be using it?

This is a common dilemma people face when trying to switch to sea salt / rock salt. As these are non-iodized salts it is feared that using these can cause iodine deficiency. However, iodine is a trace mineral required by the body in little amount and our requirement for the same can easily be fulfilled by consuming whole natural foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds etc. However, should you be apprehensive about missing out on Iodine, it may be a better idea to either make a gradual shift or continue with the iodized salt in moderation.

Salt is not our food.
The food for a specific organism is defined as whichever is consumable with enjoyment by its taste for the specific organism in its single state is food.

Salt in its natural single taste cannot be enjoyed by mankind. It is not, in fact, it is irritable in its single state.
This can be tested by offering this in its single state to a baby.

We mankind due to a lot of socio-structural reasons and scarcity of food prevailed time to time, started using salt as an additive to convert unconsumable substance to a consumable one. To retain this habit, we usually give a lot of unfounded reasons of elemental requirements, such as iodine etc.

We don't need salt, be it table or sea! Yes, Table salts are more complex than the sea salts.

As per the holistic understanding of natural food, the parts are not considered important for health but the whole. The needed elements are extracted by our body from the whole food.
