If I have knee pain, will there be any benefit of putting oil on the knees? If yes, then how does it help? Does it go inside and lubricate the joints?

Hello User,

Oil may help in relieving the pain but sometimes it can aggravate the pain. The effect of oiling depends upon the cause of the pain.
In case of any joint pain, if Rh factor is positive then, oiling will not relieve the pain. Infact, it will lead to the aggravation of the pain.
But, if the Rh factor is negative then oiling will help to relieve the pain. For better benefits, slightly warm the oil and then apply it.

Apart from just oil massage, diet and exercise is also important.

Foods to eat

  • Start your morning with a glass of warm water with a few drops of fresh lemon juice in it. This will help to flush out the toxins out of the body.
  • Drink amla juice in the morning.
  • Eat sprouts in your breakfast.
  • Drink freshly prepared homemade fruit juices along with the breakfast.
  • Eat fresh, seasonal, and locally available fruits and vegetables.
  • Include salads, nuts, and beans in your diet.
  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day to be hydrated.

Foods to avoid

  • Avoid refined grains.
  • Avoid sugars and sugary foods.
  • Avoid refined oils.
  • Say no to tobacco and smoking.
  • Avoid alcohol.
  • Avoid dairy food items like milk, curd,, paneer, butter, etc.
  • Avoid animal foods.
  • Avoid caffeinated drinks.

Exercise

  • Exercising regularly improves blood circulation, makes the body flexible and also keeps the metabolism of the body good.
  • Start the day with a short morning walk of at least 30min.
  • Do suryanamaskar as it involves maximum parts of the body through its contributing 12 asanas.
  • Practice pranayam, specially anulom-vilom and kapalbhati pranayam.
  • Walk barefoot on grass in the morning.

Sleep

Sleeping pattern is very essential as it affects the circadian rhythm and in turn the hormonal balance.

Hence, take proper sleep of at least 8-10 hours daily. Sleep early at night and also wake up early in the morning.

Thank you

Oil may give you temporary relief but it cannot cure the problem. Application of oil improves blood flow in the region and that gives some relief. You can add ginger juice drops in oil or apply directly. For proper relief you will need to support your body with nutrition change by including fruits (300-400 gms) 1 bowl of salad with lunch and dinner and handful of nuts. Yoga exercise and therapy will help in supporting the healing. You can approach health coaches for personalized guidance on above.

Oiling is a temporary measure to remove pain. It probably helps because you are giving movement by massaging which dislodged the toxins there.

It is not a cure. Cure happens by changing food and lifestyle only. Eat more hydrating foods I.e. fruits and veggies. Reduce acidic foods like animal based products, tea, coffee, fried food, sugar and excessive consumption of grains
