I have my mom who is 74 years old, 112 kgs. She xant move for her weight nd bad knees. She s diabetic and on insulin. Can u help her to lose weight?

You haven't written much about her food habits. 

In any case, all conditions are related and they all arise from the same issue. i.e accumulation of toxins in the body due to many years on the wrong lifestyle. Rest assured, once she syncs her lifestyle with nature's laws, she will see great improvement. Whatever be our age, nature has given us all to be in perfect condition. It just needs some discipline and patience.

I would suggest these things in the beginning

- Quit all animal products like dairy (yoghurt, milk, ghee, chaas, butter etc), non veg, eggs and fish. Contrary to popular opinion, these are complex foods and cause inflammation in the body. Her bad knees are one sign of it. You can find many dairy replacement recipes (like peanut curd, nut milks etc) in the recipe section of this website and also online. Keep trying till you find the recipes you like. Implement the reduction gradually.

- Keep off all refined products like sugar, salt (at least switch to sea salt,pink or black salt), maida, white rice etc

- Increase raw component in food  - i.e switch to only seasonal fruits till afternoon, Add a salad with lunch and dinner. Grains should not be more than 30% of your plate. I would also advise to keep off wheat and switch to millets or starchy veggies like sweet potato, yams etc

- Refined oil is full of toxins. It almost immediately causes inflammation and is a major cause of weight gain. Pls help her to cook oil free. It is quite easy and you wont notice the absence of oil

- Let her get sunlight..atleast 30 minutes in a day. If she can't go out, she can sit near an open window and expose her hands and legs as much as possible. Do it early morning and evening

- Let her sleep and rest without distractions as much as needed. 

- If she can't exercise, let her try dry body brushing to improve circulation of blood. She can try some gently sitting exercises too

- Be with her and help her to adopt a positive frame of mind believing in nature and her own body's healing powers. Show her the healing journeys from this website for her to draw inspiration.

Yes, these are a lot of things and she may not give her full go ahead. Just ask her to try for 21 days and she herself will see a big change. Of all these changes, the easiest ones to do in my opinion are adequate rest and fruit only breakfast. These two by itself will show lot of promising results. Weight loss will surely happen too as a secondary result.

Please keep checking her sugar levels and reducing dosage gradually. My dad was able to quit insulin injections within a week. Surely, your mom can too at some point in time depending on how well she can adhere. Contact me if you want any further info and all the best to both of you.

My dad passed away in 2015 after a lot of side effects of radiation for cancer. My mom had bp that was under control, but her major issue was her leg pains. She would be tired to even walk around in her own house. After my dads death, she realised that she has to change because she would be living alone. The post office , banks, groceries , fruits veggies etc had to be her. That generation ladies did not mostly drive too.! We could not be around due to our own lives. So became a vegan, quit all animal products, ate fruits for breakfast, fasted on raw every 15 days for Ekadasi, greenjuice daily, millets for lunch and dinner. These steps itself cured her off her skin issues first , then leg pains slowly became better , bp became down even further and she reduced her meds that year. It’s a slow progress of a change in lifestyle healing the body. When toxins Are automatically going out, then all we need is patience and trust that the body is going in the right direction. She has to start eating fruits more than vegetables. Quit all forms of fats like oils in cooking . Once the fats slowly starts melting and pass out of the body, her insulin resistance, her leg pains will slowly come down. To manage her meds u will need to take the readings daily and have a practitioner reduce her dosage. My mom was around 76-79, she has atleast lost 10 kgs . Her age is  65. So all it takes is will power and discipline and patience to wait . This is not a overnight or even a months transition. Everyday ur body will see progress, may not always be visible outside. She cannot or may not reduce weight with walking.. but she will reduce weight with a high raw diet and also heal her diabetes in parallel.

Hello Ashima Ji,

Your mother can naturally reduce her weight by sipping herbal teas, slight physical moments at Initial Stages. On later stage once she feels reducing weight she can do simple yoga and 15 min walking per day and semi liquid diet home made, having vegetable soup, consuming seasonal fruits helps her digestive system to lose some pounds.

Find the Herbal tea:

Take 200ml of water

Mix black pepper 1/4th spoon.

mix 1/4th spoon Jeera Powder

1/4th Inch Cinnamon stick

mix 1/4th spoon Ajwain (Carom Seeds)

1 small piece cardamom

1 inch grated ginger

Mix 1/4th spoon Turmeric Powder.

Allow the mixture boil well till it turns 150ml.

Filter the tea.

Once it is lukewarm can add  1/2 lemon juice and mix it well and drink after lunch or night before going to bed.

Note: Pregnancy women and Feeding mothers should avoid taking this Herbal  Tea.

Try this for 48 to 60 days and give your feed back.

Thank you all so much for the input . My main obstacle is she doesnt wish to change her diet . She is a non vegetarian . Also last 2 years she has been falling sick as she is a COPD patient as well and every season she falls sick . She is on diuretic medicine ( dytor 10 ) also . She is on regular medicine ..for thyroid ( eltroxin 100 mcg) nd storvas 20, clavix 75 . Other than that she is on novorapid insulin thrice and lantus at night . Her fasting with insulin is wothin 125 and random would be within 250 . She has been falling sick for her lung issue quite often these days . I m told by doctors that wenever she gets excess fluid , she has an issue other than chest infections . Within 4 walls its really difficult for her but she doesnt feel motivated to go out and she likes to eat , so it s getting difficult for me to control her hospital visits . In hospital everytime she gets steroid ( solumedrol ) and meropenum . Cant see any upward trend .

Perhaps talking to someone from her own age group who have healed themselves with a natural lifestyle will help i.e a peer. People tend to believe that old age comes with sickness, It is not so. Try to gently convince her that a trail of few days on a healthy lifestyle is worth more than all this suffering. Or you can take her to a naturopath or holistic nutritionist. I can recommend of you wish. However, with all this, if the person is not willing, nothing much can be done.

Hi Ashima. My heart goes all out for you. It is indeed difficult to make parents change their way. Pick up the changes that you find easy to do & implement step by step. If aunty is unwilling to give up non veg, add a veggies salad with it. Make a yummy one which she can't say no to. Pls see the recipes section to get some ideas......Do with her, she should not feel isolated.....Keep your calm as your energies also pass on to her. Do as much as you can & be happy about it.

No age is too late to understand about health and happiness in a real sense, till the individual is interested.

I wanted to add few things here. If you describe the legpains as more of a burning pain/ numbness etc, that’s more a peripheral neuropathy which is related to her diabetes. Ofcourse all are related, but again the solution is to be on high raw majorly eating fruits / drinking her green juices, quitting oils and diary and if she is a non veg, to remove all forms of meat , eggs. 

What happens is as the toxins accumulate, the blood become thicker due to the unabsorbed glucose into the cells due to insulin resistance in her blood and this makes the heart try harder to pump the blood. So it uses very less pressure to pump from the places like the legs as it’s very far from the heart. So the heavy metals and toxins can’t be pulled.. they stay in the leg and that causes pains. Once she is on a clean diet these gets flushed out.
