Hi, So after going through various posts here, I am trying to turn vegan and its been 5 days since I had dairy (Apart from very small quantity of curd) So, I would like to know how it went for people here.. What are the challenges, cravings you all overcame. Right now I get constant hunger pangs between breakfast and lunch as I have quit post breakfast tea.. Please share similar experiences and the way they were tackled.

Read moreTo make sure you’re getting all the nutrients you need on a vegan diet, it’s important to eat balanced meals that include a variety of healthy foods. For example, you’ll get protein and fiber from beans; leafy greens are great sources of vitamins A, C and K.
Swapping out refined grains, such as white pasta and white bread, for whole grains, such as brown rice and quinoa, adds iron and B vitamins to a vegan diet (nutrients that are stripped out when the grains are refined). And, the extra fiber from whole grains will help keep you full, and may even help you lose weight.
Semi cooked Sprouts, fibre veggis and fruits and brown rice will keep you full over the day.
Inspite of regular tea, go for herbal tea like Mint, ginger, chamomile etc.
Thanks.
The dairy and other things in the morning tea was sitting in the stomach giving a false sense of satiation. Good that you have quit it now. You need to give your body some time to adjust to the new pattern of eating. Our stomach is like an elastic bag which can swell or shrink depending on what you eat. Eat fruits whenever you are hungry. Overtime, these hunger pangs(actually they are false hunger signals) will go away.
Otherwise, have some home made herbal tea like mint lemon or ginger lemon etc
Hi Mamatha. Old habits die hard. So don't worry, all this is bound to happen. It really depends on why you are making these changes? For eg - I was in a healing phase, so I didn't have a choice. I had to do it. Plus I was very convinced about the logic of everything.......But yes if one is not in a healing phase, she/he really needs to show a lot of commitment.
1. I suggest you keep reading about the dairy industry. Watch documentaries like cowspiracy or read books like Milk - A Silent Killer by N K Sharma. This will help you understand the rationale better & you'll just get more & more convinced about it.
2. Attend cooking workshops which teach dairy-free cooking. You'll be able to find substitutes for everything. And in the meanwhile, keep trying recipes from the recipes section on wellcure.
Giving up tea is in any case difficult for everyone. Give it up gradually. Reduce frequency, reduce the quantity. Substitute with herbal teas if you like to have something warm. Else substitute with cold natural drinks like nimboo paani, coconut water, nut milk, aam panna, fruit juices, fruit smoothies, etc.
By the way, Wellcure is not about veganism. It's about Natural Foods :-). Removing animal products from your diet is just one part of the story. Adding more natural foods in their raw, whole forms, in right combinations & as per body's circadian rythm is the key to good health......Focus on inclusions too, don't feel overwhelmed with the exclusions. Once you start including correctly, exclusions happen automatically.
Wellcure runs a 'Buddy' program to help you transition to a natural lifestyle. You could explore that.
Dear Mamatha,
We have a compilation of healthy dairy-free recipes on our website. You may want to explore these from our Recipe Section.
You can also read the Health Journey of Nikita Solanki - she shares her experience of how she healed naturally. In the process, she made a shift from a hard-core dairy consumer to quitting dairy completely.
Team Wellcure
Congratulations Mamatha for your decision to sync LIFE with NATURE!
This journey is synonymous to OBSERVATION.
Focus on observing yourself keenly!
Observe every response of yours, including cravings, before reacting to it!
Buy some more time mentally, before the reactions.
Ask yourself if it is genuinely happening to you or there is some conditioning behind it!
It is a lifestyle of getting rid of specific dependencies.
We don't need anything specific to lead a healthy and happy life.
Questioning our specific-dependencies is the primary aspect.
Hunger needs to be satiated, for sure. If the unger asks for any specific food, it is craving, not a hunger! It is created in mind, not in body. We need to address that mindfully. The genuine hunger is the one which is triggered physiologically.
VOICE OF THE ORGANISM:
Before opting any food, asking ourselves, if that food is likeable in its natural state, without any modification is a necessary step. Tea gets discarded with this analysis. We need to repeat this question whenever we feel the craving towards some specific food.
We all have undergone/undergoing this phase and continued questioning in these transitional phases.
When we stop questioning, we fail!
Thank you
Hi, thank you all so much for the valuable inputs. I will go through the links and am sure they will help me out..

Yes Asha, that's so true. I could see a reduction in hunger pangs today.
