Hi is it alright to give ragi milk to a 1 year 8 month old child everyday. As it's raw can it cause stomach ache or constipation? Please advise.

Hello Mamatha Ji,

Ragi milk can be adviced to a baby  daily basis once in a time. Since baby will be very active its gets digested easily.

Also by giving adequate water for drinking it helps to dilute in the system and makes digestion even easier.

Insptie of adding milk, you can still cook it in hot water and stir it well and add some jaggery powderm, pinch of cardamom powder too to improve taste and give liquid basis.

Thanks.

Thanks Mohan. Yes, have added jaggery and cardamom for flavouring... My doubt was if it is ok to give every day.. As it is raw form of ragi..

Namaste

Nut milk is preferable to ragi milk. Unless the ragi is soaked well and just about to germinate.

Grains are not so easy to breakdown as it is. It needs to be either cooked or soaked upto the stage of germination.

A baby would be much happier with nut milks which are extracted after atleast 8 hours of soaking. And for other needs you may stick to fresh fruits and vegetables. You may give soaked and cooked moong if you feel like. But fruits are the best. Go for starch rich fruits if you are looking for more body building foods. For example bananas, avocados, coconut meat, sapota, etc.

Be happy be healthy always

Hi Mamatha,

No!
It is not recommended...

Not because it is RAW, because it is complex.
Baby's stomach-structure is not ready for it.

RAW juicy fruits are better alternatives.

Thank you...

At this stage when you are weaning her off diary, why get it latched on to a grain ? It’s best to include a nut milk / coconut milk diluted for few times without any sweetener. Cardamom can be added. Grains as it is have been inculcated as a wrong habits among human beings over a period of time which we have been struggling to let go. So when you get a chance, avoid making the habit. Don’t add anything that you think will be difficult to wean. Smoothies / fruits are the best choice now

There are different stages of evolution of Human body as it matures from infant to matured adult. Mother nature has provisioned for milk for every mammal for transition from infant tochild to adult.

An important change happens in psyiologically -Development of Teeth. teething means body is ready to digest external foods especially starches.

Link between teeth and starch. We cannot digest starches without grinding them with teeth. Body cannot breakdown directly in stomach.

So, we should introduce any grains and legumes after teeth starts developing.

Another point here Ragi milk should not include dairy milk.

Yes, its pure Ragi milk. No dairy involved. I am trying to replace cow milk with ragi milk before she sleeps. Hence, the query if it can be given every day.
