Can diabetic patient eat potatoes and rice?? What food should be avoided??

Hy...yes you can eat but the method of preparation should be different.
1.Potatoes should be baked or should be heated on stove like corn. Than it can be eaten in moderate quantity.
2. And rice should be eaten in the form of ganji, the quantity of water should be double the quantity of rice and the rice which are used in preparation should not be polished rice.it should be avoided in night.

आलु उबले हुए छिलके सहित लें और तेल के बिना लें।चावल भूसी युक्त (brown rice) लें ।

परहेज़ गेहूँ और मैदा और तेल से करना चाहिए।

         Your question is can Diabetics eat rice and potatoes?
         
        There is something called Glycemic index, this applies to those foods which contain carbohydrates . It is a score which indicates how fast a carbohydrate is converted into glucose , which shows in the blood. Based on this food can be grouped into low, medium and high glycemic foods. It has score of 1to 100, 1to55 are low glycemic, 56 to 69 are medium and 70 to 100 are high glycemic foods. As you eat foods which have a higher glycemic index ,it means your blood sugars are going to spike. Also the more the carbohydrate content of a food the higher will be it's glycemic index. 
         Answering to your question, Potatoes and rice especially white rice(polished varieties) have a glycemic index above 70 and come under the category of high glycemic foods, if you eat them your blood sugar is going to increase drastically.
        Still, it doesn't mean you have to avoid them totally. Green leafy vegetables, and other vegetables such as cabbage ,cauliflower, broccoli, bitter gourd and for that matter any vegetable grown above the ground has a low carbohydrate content and has very low glycemic index, whenever you feel like eating potatoes and rice, fill your plate with the low glycemic index veggies, some legumes and to satisfy your palate take some potatoes or rice. This becomes a healthy diet with the balance of all the nutrients and a diet with lots of fiber, which helps prevents blood sugar spikes, and keeps you full for a longer time, and your blood sugar stable.

As potato and rice both are rich sources of carbohydrates,... They should be avoided.. Go with milets. Comparaing with rice and wheat there glycemic index is low

नमस्ते,

शुगर कोई बीमारी नहीं है। ख़राब हाज़मा और ग़लत आदतों के वजह से शरीर इस रूप में प्रतिक्रिया कर रहा है। शरीर को नहीं अपनी आदतों को जाँचे।

शरीर पाँच तत्व से बना हुआ है प्रकृति की ही तरह।

आकाश, वायु, अग्नि, जल, पृथ्वी ये पाँच तत्व आपके शरीर में रोज़ खुराक की तरह जाना चाहिए।

पृथ्वी और शरीर का बनावट एक जैसा 70% पानी से भरा हुआ। पानी जो कि फल, सब्ज़ी से मिलता है।

आपका मुख्य आहार ये हुआ तो बहुत अच्छा हो जाएगा।

1 आकाश तत्व- एक खाने से दूसरे खाने के बीच में विराम दें। रोज़ाना 15 घंटे का उपवास करें जैसे रात का भोजन 7 बजे तक कर लिया और सुबह का नाश्ता 9 बजे लें।

2 वायु तत्व- लंबा गहरा स्वाँस अंदर भरें और रुकें। इसके बाद फिर पूरे तरीक़े से स्वाँस को ख़ाली करें, रुकें, फिर स्वाँस अंदर भरें। ये एक चक्र हुआ। ऐसे 10 चक्र एक समय पर करना है। ये दिन में चार बार करें। खुली हवा में बैठें या टहलें।

3 अग्नि तत्व- सूर्य उदय के एक घंटे बाद या सूर्य अस्त के एक घंटे पहले का धूप शरीर को ज़रूर लगाएँ। सर और आँख को किसी सूती कपड़े से ढक कर। जब भी लेंटे अपना दायाँ भाग ऊपर करके लेटें ताकि आपकी सूर्य नाड़ी सक्रिय रहे।

4 जल तत्व- खाना खाने से एक घंटे पहले नाभि के ऊपर गीला सूती कपड़ा लपेट कर रखें या खाना के 2 घंटे बाद भी ऐसा कर सकते हैं।

मेरुदंड (स्पाइन) सीधा करके बैठें। हमेशा इस बात ध्यान रखें और हफ़्ते में 3 दिन मेरुदंड का स्नान करें। 

5 पृथ्वी- सब्ज़ी, सलाद, फल, मेवे, आपका मुख्य आहार होगा। आप सुबह खीरे का जूस लें, खीरा 1/2 भाग + धनिया पत्ती (10 ग्राम) पीस लें, 100 ml पानी मिला कर पीएँ। 2 घंटे बाद फल नाश्ते में लेना है।

दोपहर में 12 बजे फिर से इसी जूस को लें। इसके एक घंटे बाद खाना खाएँ।शाम को 5 बजे सफ़ेद पेठे (ashguard) 20 ग्राम पीस कर 100 ml पानी मिला। 2 घंटे तक कुछ ना लें। रात के सलाद में हरे पत्तेदार सब्ज़ी को डाले। ताज़ा नारियल मिलाएँ। रात का खाना 8 बजे खाएँ

लाल, हरा, पीला शिमला मिर्च 1/4 हिस्सा हर एक का मिलाएँ। इसे बिना नमक के खाएँ, बहुत फ़ायदा होगा। पृथ्वी तत्व को शरीर में डालने का एक नियम हमेशा याद रखें ठोस (solid) खाने को चबा कर तरल (liquid) बना कर खाएँ। तरल (liquid) को मुँह में घूँट घूँट पीएँ। खाना ज़मीन पर बैठ कर खाएँ। खाते वक़्त ना तो बात करें और ना ही TV और mobile को देखें। ठोस (solid) भोजन के तुरंत बाद या बीच बीच में जूस या पानी ना लें। भोजन हो जाने के एक घंटे बाद तरल पदार्थ (liquid) ले सकते हैं। ऐसा करने से हाज़मा कभी ख़राब नहीं होगा। जानवरों से उपलब्ध होने वाले भोजन छोड़ने से ज़्यादा लाभ होगा।

तेल, मसाला, और गेहूँ से परहेज़ करेंगे तो अच्छा होगा।

हफ़्ते में एक दिन उपवास करें। शाम तक केवल पानी लें, प्यास लगे तो ही पीएँ। यदि सम्भव हो तो शाम 5 बजे नारियल पानी और रात 8 बजे सलाद लें।

Good morning 

Yes they can eat both potatoes and rice..
Potatoes are very healthy and fall in the catogary of root vegetables. 

You can also add them to your salads or just have them with pink salt, pepper and a dash of lemon after steaming.

Grains are acidic in nature it's good to avoid but once a while rice can be taken but they should be prepared in an open vessel and the water should be taken out.

But for curing your condition you should focus on changing your entire lifestyle.

* only brown rice can be consumed. 
* potatoes can be consumed occasionally in very small proportion. 
* Even consuming apples can increase diabetes. 
It's bcoz a specific amount of carbohydrates are required for the body !

Hello Dr Gala. I was just wondering why you mentioned apples can increase diabetes. Apples are extremely nutritious & in my experience, there is no fruit that a diabetic should be afraid of. We need to de-mystify this whole approach of don't eat this, don't eat that when it comes to natural foods. All that one should focus on is including a variety of whole, local, seasonal, fresh fruits & veggies, sprouts with some bit of nuts & seeds, whole grains to reap the benefits of good health. As we know diabetes is blood insulin level abnormality of body that's why blood glucose level increases so for its prevention first of all you should avoid high carbohydrate diet 
So Rice and potatoes are not good for health in diabetes u can consume brown rice instead of it 
Other than this you can consume chia seeds, cinnamon, flex seeds, nuts ,turmeric according to some research this products has good effect on insulin level so must prefer them

If you want to reverse diabetes and within few months, completely switch to a whole food plant based diet with just fruits greens and non starchy veggies that does not include potatoes etc . The ones you eat must be juicy and natural.

If you want a delayed reversal - u can include an oilfree unpolished millet based dinner with only 30% millets and rest being steamed veggies. The rest of the morning till dinner you have to be on raw as described above. 

 

Include some mild exercises, exposure to sunlight and yoga and pranayama under a practitioner. Wean yourself off the medicines by continuously monitoring your sugar on a daily basis

Hi,

First and foremost it is important to know whether the individual who has diabetes, is his/ her blood sugar under control or no? Next , all vegetables, including potato, sweet potato , beetroot can be consumed. Better organic and with the skin. Here, again the method of cooking is important, please do not use oil. Rice, if polished is best to avoid. You could switch to unpolished, handpounded rice or millets. All vegetables and fruits can be had, unless there is severe medical condition and uncontrolled diabetes.

As, far as food to be avoided is concerned, avoid all dairy, animal foods, packed and processed foods. All nuts and seeds must be soaked and dry fruits like dates etc, should be had in limited quantity to maintain your blood sugars. Apart from this it is best to avoid all artifical sweeteners and all kinds of sugars. Physical activity, and managing stress are equally important. Wishing you Good Health Always!
