COVID-19 Pandemic - Making The Best Of The Worst Of Times
The global health crisis brought on to us by the COVID-19 virus has many perspectives. If you did not use extended lockdowns to introspect, analyze your life and the world around you, you are “Vimoodha” - not just a fool, but a colossal one. I call it a colossal compassion crisis. Because we, humans have endlessly and ruthlessly exploited natural environmental resources, animals, and each other to the point where our actions have boomeranged on us. It is also the law of nature or call it Karma - as you sow so shall you reap. We have brought upon ourselves our own misfortunes. Now Nature has pushed us back from all spheres of life - work, entertainment, education, and others. So that Nature and animals can get a breather and reclaim their lost, encroached upon spaces. Many people are still in bewilderment at why the pandemic? Please see how the collective actions of the masses have brought forth this crisis and examine your actions, choices - how good or bad t
Conquer Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) Naturally
As the winter season begins with a bit of holiday cheer, many people feel a little “off” or "down”. People question themselves - “Is there something wrong with me?” “Why am I so unhappy?” Often, their bodies are just responding to the darker and colder days. This type of depression may be classified as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). What is the reason behind SAD? We are governed by circadian rhythms, our body's natural clock that helps regulate important functions, including sleep/wake cycles and mood. These rhythms shift during the onset of the winter season. Daytime gets shorter, reducing exposure to sunlight, yet our hectic schedules are unchanged and require us to keep going. This shift, depending on various factors namely genetics and body chemistry – affect mental health and could, in turn, have an impact on physical health creating a sense of sluggishness. It is also believed that a drop in serotonin in the
The Magical Power of Blessings - Part 1.
Unhappy with your circumstances or the people around you? Facing difficult times or relationship problems? Do you wish more happiness, abundance and peace in the world? Have you tried the magical power of blessings? What is the science behind it and how to start practising it to bring in a change in your life? I want to begin this article by expressing my gratitude to Prof Krish Murali Eswar for teaching me this concept in 2016. Since I learnt it and started practising it, it has only brought magic into my life. One of the easy ways to bring peace and happiness into your life is by giving more of what you think you lack. Sounds crazy? Absolutely not! Are you aware of what a positive effect you can have on yourself, others, and situations when you take a moment to bless them? What is a blessing? Hey, wait! Only saints, elders can bless youngsters, isn't it? That's not entirely true! Anyone can bless anyone & anything. We need to wish good for someone. That sh

3 Golden Rules To Get Along Well With People
Enhance Mental Wellness & Reduce Social Anxiety No man is an island and it is well established that we are social creatures. We need to interact and transact with people in various capacities. That necessitates the art of getting along with others. In order to get along well with people, we need to hone a few skills within ourselves. 1. Assessing People: This is the foremost skill of ensuring a healthy and pleasant social life. You need to develop the ability to assess people. This means understanding their intrinsic nature, through careful study and observation. Just as in the animal kingdom there are the fierce carnivores, meek herbivores, and shrewd scavengers, similarly different humans have different temperaments. Some are humble, some are arrogant, some are patient and some have a short fuse. The animals have a collective nature. For example, all tigers are ferocious, all deer are timid. However, in humans, each person is unique and people don&

Anxiety in Children
What is anxiety? The word ‘anxiety' is commonly associated with the experience/feeling of nervousness, distress, apprehension, worry and may even have physical manifestations like sweating, nausea, tremors, headaches etc. Simply put, anxiety is our response to a trigger, which is usually something we are apprehensive about or scared of. The trigger may be real or imaginary. Interestingly, the physiological responses associated with anxiety are similar to the way our body responds to fear i.e. the flight-or-fight response. These essentially are a set of bodily changes (like increased heartbeat and blood pressure) that assist you in fighting or escaping as soon as a threat or danger is perceived. Is anxiety normal? Even in children? Anxiety, to some extent, is not only normal it is adaptive and has functional value. For example, if there is a real, physical threat in front of you then the feeling of anxiety will prompt you to do something about it (fight or es
Part 3 – How to practice the art of surrendering
In part1 we learnt the meaning of surrendering with examples. In part2 we understood about intuition and raising vibrations with a positive lifestyle. In this article, we will learn the practical approaches to practising total surrender and reaping the benefits of that in our daily lives. Fruits of surrender Fruits of surrender are in the blissful experience. Life goes on as usual but without the bitterness of wants and fears of our egoistic self. There is a sense of peace that no longer depends on situations, people or events to make us happy and satisfied. All possible outcomes must be accepted and enjoyed with the same spirit, the perfect and imperfect merge and don't seem to matter anymore. Series of steps to follow to practice surrender The following are the steps that I follow which have personally helped me see results more often than not: Step1 - Gratitude for the present- Get your mind to the centre of your being – calm, peaceful, h
Part 2 - Preparing oneself for the art of surrendering
In Part1 of this series on the Art of surrendering, we understood the true meaning of surrendering and examples to understand it. In this article, we will learn to: Prepare to let go of the past ways of living that did not serve us. Learn newer ways of preparing mind and body, physically, emotionally and mentally for surrendering. Learn how to truly understand and implement surrender. Intuition - Voice from within “We must take care to not make the intellect our God. It cannot lead; it can only serve.” - Albert Einstein Key to surrender comes from your intuition also called the ‘Voice of the subconscious mind' and not the linear mind or the conscious mind. The higher the intensity of surrender and longer the practice, the more intuitive and open we become to deeper knowledge. The more we surrender or act based on what the intuition tells us, we see the results faster and the better we get at practising it. Intuition does not always
Guardians of the human body – Microbiome Part 2
How does lifestyle impact the colony of the Microbiome? In part 1 of this series, you learnt what are microbiomes and how they defend the body in many of the physical mental and emotional functions. In this part, we will understand how our lifestyle impacts the microbiome and their functions. What are the enemies of our friends and what creates weeds in their beautiful functional garden? Autoimmune diseases and their cause There are more than a hundred different types of autoimmune conditions today and it's believed that the body's immune system wages a war against its own healthy tissues, leading to chronic inflammation. Different autoimmune conditions may affect the same person. Such issues typically have the same cause but different manifestations and symptoms which is nothing but the normal immune system reacting to an abnormal trigger. What has not been found so far is that instead of naming the bacteria that causes the issues, perhaps the absence of certai
Tension, anxiety and depression - Deal with it naturally
NO Tranquilizers, please Consider today's scenario, it is well nigh impossible to find a person who is free from tension, anxiety, and depression of some sort or other may be of a lesser degree. For decades we have been declaring from rooftops that tranquillizers are no answer to the problem of tension. What the patient suffering from a state of anxiety or tension needs is an intelligent guidance offered to him to enable him to make a sensible effort aimed at making him understand the real causes of his mental condition and a positive encouragement to him by a father-figure, a Guru-figure or a Mother- figure or that of a suhriday friend, so that he may get back his mental health the sane, safe and sure way. The individual who chooses to become an addict to tranquillizers use every time he is mentally upset would only become worse and worse progressively & he would long reach the point of no return Our view in this regard has been supported by leading psychologi
Inner Child Therapy: Let us breathe freely
Remember those days when we danced in the rain and our mothers allowed us to be free and spontaneous? Remember that time when we forgot little worries but life went on fine? Remember the beautiful walk in the mountains, where oxygen was low but our lungs were full and free? Where are those days gone now, when sleep was so fulfilling and deep? We all know about the fact that we store the emotions in our mind but we are totally oblivious to the fact that our mind is in sync with our body. The emotions which we store by getting affected from day to day activities are stored in various body parts. When our emotions are disturbed we start getting into the vicious cycle of pain and disease. In our body, everything works in harmony. Inner child therapy is all about getting in touch with that part of you which is storing a certain emotion - going back to the time when you experienced a feeling of guilt, when your trust was broken when you faced embarrassment or knowing where your ang
Anger – The Continuum from Procreative to Destructive Energy
It is common sense that the root cause of anger lies in disappointment; a disappointment which comes from failure in the meeting of expectations. However, not every expectation leads to disappointment and not every disappointment leads to anger. Simply put, only expectations which are tied to our survival leadto anger. Now, we all have our own definition of survival. This is the reason why, in any situation, two people can have different emotions when hit by disappointment. Every moment that we live, we live with hope and hope gives birth to expectation. Since the definition of our survival is programmed in interdependence, our expectations are largely turned towards others. Therefore, almost every moment spent with expectation carries the potential to turn into anger. Moments spent without hope are moments without curiosity, which quickens the process of ageing. With age, we turn hopeless all the time by concluding on our relationships, career, family and self. We often dub it
Natural Ways to Quit Smoking-This Cancer Day Take Your First Step Towards Kicking The Butt
Cancer Day is observed on 4th February. Readers will remember the remarks of MARK TWAIN when the cigar-smoking habit badgered him. Often he tried to quit. He realized the harm and the necessity of quitting when he humorously said something like this - "Quit smoking. Why anybody can do that. I quit a thousand times." One wonders if the same recurrence of desire which caused Mark Twain to quit thousand times, only to return to the habit is a part of all the ‘so-called' cures that have been offered to destroy the habit. Here is a system that works since which is physiologically based. Breathing has always been involved in the smoking habit; whether cigars, cigarettes, pipes or, bidis. All smokers, when they reach for a cigarette feel deprived of air. The deep inspiration drawing the first smoke into the mouth is an effort to get more air, more oxygen, albeit contaminated with nicotine & whatnot. By the act of smoking, the mechanism of respirati
Weight loss or Self-love, What are we seeking?

Do we start hating ourselves for what we aren't? We have forgotten the role of ourselves in our life. The "why's" to ask before you start. To start with, how much do we know our body? Have you sat for 5 minutes and taken efforts to introspect what are the things which are making you decide to lose weight. So here let me give you the "why's" for you to start. Memory Loss or Dementia
Unless there is physical damage or fault in our brain, there is nothing which we ever forget to remember. Human life is designed in such a way that it records every experience and stores it within. It is the size of our consciousness, which decides how much we can keep in our awareness while doing our daily routine. We are trained since childhood to be useful and productive; our consciousness is, thus, kept constrained or limited only to the issues which are important to earn a living and be a provider for the family and economy. Any other aspect of our life is kept buried inside. Take a case: I conducted 2 hours of lectures on senior citizens. I had no clue about their illnesses. Almost everyone was below 70 and it came as a surprise that almost 30% of them reported memory loss during an interaction. Most of them retired from a senior post as engineers and were well to do. In a rat race, we do not pay attention to holistic aspects of life and identify ourselves only wi
Digital Detox - Why & How To Do It?
With the influx of gadgets, the convergence of technologies, and the overload of information many of us are experiencing an information deluge. The inability to prioritize tasks, lack of attention at work, and reduced level of energy are some of the signs of our obsessive digital consumption which need our attention. This article gives an idea of the digital content consumption pattern and highlights why it is important to exercise some restraint. It also suggests ways to effective digital detox in city life. Digital Detox Being an early consumer of the emerging technologies, I was exposed to digital routine and its ill-effects much earlier. Experiencing lack of quality sleep, distraction, and energy drain during the day, I realized I needed to take corrective measures. I also realized doing away with the use of IT is not feasible, so the best thing was to look for a planned timeout. It started with disconnecting the internet for a short period, and then I expanded it to accommod
How Mental Disorders are formed
What is a mental disorder? Mental Disorder is a disease at the mind level. Like distress and disease, it is also caused by an imbalance in the Emotion-Body-Mind trio. The good news is that any simple, chronic or complex form of mental disorder is easy to reverse. Based on the book - 'Meditation the cure', where the complete science and techniques are detailed out for any patient (care giver) to start reversing disorders at home, we have been helping patients with all kind of disorders. Here are facts and science which trigger mental disorder in a person: - When an event(s) of your life has bigger impact than your faith in life, it triggers disappointment. Disappointment leads to hopelessness. Hopelessness triggers negative emotions within, which the mind tries to control and keep inside. State of hopelessness kills curiosity, which is disconnection with mystery; leading a person to feel unattended and unsupported. At energy level, this causes massive di
Parent-Child Relationship
Today, the skillful use of praise and criticism to smooth parent-child relationships and increase harmony in the home seems more important than ever. Parents need not waste energy on crisis and confrontation that might have been avoided with more adept handling. Haim Ginott, author of "Between Parent and Child" and "Between Parents and teenagers", defines the goal of all criticism as the solution of a particular problem. Criticism that doesn't accomplish this goal has failed as a tool in family management and should be improved. In his book, Dr. Ginott insists that the following three rules are important when we criticize: Don't attack personally attributes Don't criticise character traits Deal with the situation at hand A friend whose son had a mishap with a ballpoint pen followed these rules with good results. Somehow, black permanent ink showed up one day, first on his shirt and jeans, then on the living room sofa. Such apparent c
