How I was diagnosed with Cancer
I had a lump in the breast for some time. I had done mammography regularly and biopsy earlier too which had come negative, however in May 2016 the size of the lump felt bigger so went for mammography on my own & the result came as Birads V. This was a sign of breast cancer. Later, the gynaecologist sent me for biopsy and the report came 2nd grade ductal invasive carcinoma i.e malignant that is cancerous. My doctor advised that I do immediate surgery & start with the chemotherapy routine to avoid the cancer cells from growing. But, I had my reservations for this procedure. I had already undergone 2 biopsies and realized how harmful the process is! I did not want to get exposed to unnatural methods of treatment that causes more harm than good. I had heard stories about some people in my social circle who had put on oodles of weight due to the side-effects of chemotherapy, the hair loss, the skin damage and so on. I wanted to save myself from all this and firmly believed that I could find a better solution than chemotherapy.
I began doing some self-study on the topic and came across a website of Chris Wark who was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. He beat cancer by bringing radical changes in his diet and lifestyle by following a natural, plant-based diet. His story not only intrigued me but also revived my faith in the power of nature. At that moment, I decided to opt for a natural path by being fearless. I shifted my entire focus on attaining a healthy life than to think about death constantly.
The path to a new life
The inspiring journey of Chris instilled the central idea in my head that FOOD IS REAL MEDICINE. I decided to look out for nutritionists in Mumbai who would be able to guide me in handling my issues naturally. I asked my friends for suggestions and it was in May 2016 that one of my friends based out of London recommended that I go to a naturopath Dr. Raj Merchant in Mumbai. As I went to meet him, he opened my eyes to the misconceptions I had around diseases. He made me understand how the accumulation of toxins was the underlying problem beneath the occurrence of any disease. The only way to cure a disease would be by removing toxins from my body. Whole food, plant-based nutrition would come to my rescue in the same. Thus, I started with the following:
In the beginning, it was difficult for me as I am a Bengali. Non-veg food, animal protein and milk products form an essential part of my ecosystem. However, much to my surprise, after a week of making these changes, I started noticing the difference in my overall health. My stomach issues were disappearing, I slept better. In fact, I felt lighter and more positive. After following this routine for 3 months, I went for a thermography test that depicted clearly that cancer had not spread. This was indication enough for me to explore the natural path more and during my research, I came across SHARAN. In this organization, I met some amazing individuals such as Dr Nandita Shah and Dr Rashmi Menon who piqued my interest in the whole-food, plant-based nutrition. I went on to pursue a Diploma in Naturopathy & Yogic Sciences to get a stronger grasp on this subject.
All I asked from my family and friends during this trying time were a lot of good wishes, prayers and positivity. However, after following the natural lifestyle for 6 months, after much insistence from one of my friends who is an MBBS doctor, I decided to try homeopathic medicines. I understood that she wanted to help me and thus began a 2 year-long course of homeopathic medicines from Dec 2016 to Dec 2018 from Dr. Shailesh Despande from Pune. But after this time, I had a strong gut feeling that my lifestyle was enough to battle any illness and I need not rely on any medicines to get better. So, I stopped my homeopathic medicines too.
Now, I wanted to delve deeper into the science of Nature Cure and grabbed the opportunity immediately when Dr Arun Sharma organized his camp in Feb 2019. It was a life-changing experience for me. Till now, I knew about the importance of right food in maintaining good health but he opened a world of tatvas and connection with nature and mother earth, which brought a complete transformation in my life. I learnt about the positive effects of fasting on health and began to opt for fasting to give my body the desired digestive rest to heal.
In December 2018, I underwent sonography to test the extent of cancer and was delighted to know that the lump had calcified, i.e., it had turned non-malignant.
Conclusion
Today, I lead a healthy lifestyle by following the practices that I learnt in all these years. The power of faith and the magic of Nature Cure helped me sail through the tough times with much ease and positive effect. I now help people in changing their life for the better with the power of natural living.
Last few years of my illness and recovery have made me understand the role of nutrition, environment, habits and positivity in the healing of an individual. I am thankful to everyone who guided me along my journey to reclaim my life and I now look forward to bringing betterment in the lives of those who are suffering from chronic health issues.
