Read moreDoing warm water gargles with honey helps. Keeping food on lighter side i.e eating easy to digest foods like fruits, juices, soups etc. helps recovery too. He also needs to relook at his sleep and rest patterns as during times of cold, sore throat, fever etc. body needs additional rest to repair and recover faster. Ample sun intake in mornings is also beneficial.
I will share my own experience. I used to suffer from tonsillitis very regularly since teenage which worsened over da years. I thought it was aggravating due to pollution but I lived abroad for 4 yrs, same status, many severe recurrences in which I had to take anti biotics. There was a time when I was even inhaling steroids as I could not sleep at night! All this continued until I changed my lifestyle habits. No milk no coke or fizzy drinks. High on fruits n homemade juices & smoothies. I increased my intake of raw salads and veggies too and cut out processed foods drastically. And all this has really helped! I haven't had a bout of sore throat in more than 3-4 years except 2 occasions. In these two occasions I increased my raw and rest and recovered faster vs what I would do when I would take anti biotics.
Hello,
A sore throat may be the result of any infection or exposure to cold.
The following things will help you to get rid of it.
- Gargle with warm water 3 to 4 times. For better results, you may add rock salt to the water. Gargling will help to remove the toxins from the throat.
- Mix clove powder with organic honey and have this twice a day.
- Take steam twice a day.
- Drink herbal tea.
You can check the recipe for herbal tea here.

- Practice oil pulling in the morning. Take 2 spoons of sesame oil in your mouth. Hold it for 2 minutes in the mouth and then spill it out followed by warm water gargle.
Along with this, practice anulom-vilom pranayam.
Thank you
Sore throat is a sign of body creating a mechanism to throw out excess toxins and acidic levels and to restore balance. Don’t’ fear it. Infact support your body through the right actions regarding food and rest during this time.
Increase his raw intake of food, in form of fruits and vegetable juices, raw vegetable salads etc. This will help the body cleanse well. And will help create an alkaline balance. Avoid dairy till he recovers fully as that will only add to mucous generation. Also if he can ask him to avoid non veg and grains, these are heavy digesting, and squander a lot of body’s vital energy. In meals, you could give him the more wholesome options of daal chilas, sama rice, soups and aloo tikkis etc. Make sure each meal has raw element in form of salads. The more raw he consumes the faster he will recover.
For sore throat can put a bit of dal chini in mouth or can take the grinded one with honey n two drops ginger juice. Pain should go by morning n settle the sore throat too.
You could also give honey mixed with ginger juice and honey. Add a tsp of lemon juice too.
Give a concoction of Onion juice mixed with honey, twice a day. Add a tsp of honey with a tsp of ginger juice and a pinch of haldi. Just grate onion finely and squeeze its juice in a lemon squeezer. Give it immediately, don’t store.
