Portal hypertension is an increase in the pressure within the portal vein which carries blood from the digestive organs to the liver. High blood pressure occurs when the lumen of blood vessels become narrowed due to the accumulation of cholesterol. Because of narrowed vessels, blood has to flow through more pressure to reach every tissue and cells of the body. This accumulation of toxins occurs due to the consumption of a high-fat diet.
Diet
- Drink 3 to 4 glasses of warm water on an empty stomach early in the morning. This will help to flush the toxins out of the body.
- Include Vitamin C rich foods and drinks in your diet like blueberries, oranges, amla, lemon juice, etc as they have antioxidant properties.
- Eat soaked raisins, dry fruits, beans, nuts, and sprouts to get them easily absorbable nutrients.
- Have fresh, seasonal, and locally available fruits and vegetables.
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
Foods to avoid-
- Avoid dairy products like ghee, milk, paneer, curd, etc.
- Avoid processed, packaged, preserved, oily and spicy foods.
- Avoid tea and coffee.
- Avoid carbonated drinks.
- Avoid refined oils and refined grains.
Physical activity
- Start the day with a short morning walk.
- Perform pranayam regularly, specially anulom-vilom, kapalbhati and bhastrika pranayam.
- Do padahasta asana, trikona asana, gomukha asana, hala asana.
- Take sunrays early in the morning.
Sleep
A correct sleeping pattern is essential for good metabolism and to maintain the circadian rhythm. So, take proper sleep of at least 7-8 hours daily. Sleep early at night and also wake up early in the morning.
