Hello User,

Cough and cold may be due to allergies or due to some infection or it may also be the result of a deviated septum. An excessive and abnormal mucous formation may also indicate some infection in the body. This may also be the result of excess toxins accumulated in the body. However, the problem can be managed by following a natural lifestyle and by making some changes in the diet.

Some tips

  • Gargle with warm water with rock salt added in it twice a day.
  • Take steam daily once in a day. If possible add neem leaves in boiling water and take its steam.
  • Drink herbal tea twice a day.
  • Use hot water for taking bath.
  • Drink warm water during the whole day.
  • Prepare a decoction using adrak, long, dalchini, haldi and tulsi. Drink 15ml of this decoction daily twice a day.

Diet

  • Start the day with a glass of warm water.
  • Include Vitamin C in your diet like blueberries, amla, oranges, lemon, etc. It has antioxidant properties.
  • Have a light and nutritious breakfast. Have a bowl of sprouts in your breakfast.
  • Drink freshly prepared homemade fruit juices like beetroot juice, pomegranate juice, etc.
  • Drink coconut water.
  • Have fresh, seasonal and locally available fruits and vegetables in your diet.
  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day to be hydrated and to eliminate the toxins out of the body.

Physical activity

  • Start the day with a short morning walk of atleast 30min.
  • Do suryanamaskar regularly.
  • Practice yogasanas, specially bhujanga asana, trikona asana and paschimottan asana.
  • Do pranayam regularly, specially anulom-vilom and kapalbhati pranayam.

Sleep

Sleeping is very important for our health. It helps to maintain the circadian rhythm and hormonal balance. So, take proper sleep of at least 7-8hours daily. Sleep early at night at around 10 pm and also wake up early in the morning at around 6 am.
