Hello Omkar,

Infection with a cold or flu virus is among the most common causes of chest congestion and happens when the infection progresses from the upper respiratory tract, your nasal passages, sinuses throat into the lower respiratory tract, your bronchi and lungs.

What can be done?

  • Add rock salt to mustard oil and warm it. Apply this warm mixture on your chest and cover the chest. This will remove the chest congestion.
  • Add turmeric in your foods. It has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Drink herbal tea twice a day with tulsi.
  • Drink warm water during the day every time you feel thirsty.
  • Drink a glass of warm water with few drops of lemon in it. This has antioxidant properties and will aid in recovery.
  • Take proper rest and don't do excessive work as this will cause exertion and will increase the problems.
  • Take adequate sleep of atleast 7-8hours daily.

Thank you

Hello Omkar,

Despite doing our best by taking care of our health, our regular exposure to pollutants, sitting in AC-packed rooms, make our lungs weak and they do not get completely detoxed resulting in chest congestion. The best thing which we can do to help ourselves is our bit to keep the respiratory organs healthier.

Now let us understand what changes we can make:

Eat:

The first thing in the morning is to start your day with something light in nature and easy to digest is what your breakfast should be because they are the kind of nutrients that get absorbed easily. Even the early morning ritual should include consumption of two-three glasses of warm water will help in flushing out all the toxins.

The ideal diet would be to depend on fruits and raw vegetable intake at least for one month and refrain from something which is oil-based. Have fruit salad in the afternoon time and vegetable salad as an evening snack this will be light on your stomach.

  • Consume Vitamin C-rich food as it builds up immunity and at the same time clears our airway like mosumbi, oranges, lemon, sprouts, cabbage, capsicum, etc which helps in increasing lung vital capacity.
  • Have ginger lemon tea, with one inch of ginger and a teaspoon of lemon which will help in treating any inflammatory issue or any problem related to the lungs. Consume it on an alternate day basis to improve respiratory health.

Exercise:

  • Pranayam helps in detoxifying the body, practising it early morning in an area that has good sunlight will help.
  • Suryanamaskar daily 12 sets will help in increasing the blood circulation of your body. And with all the stretches, will help in expanding the chest and will help increase lung capacity.
  • Cat and cow pose, cobra pose helps in the expansion of the chest which in turn increases the lung vital capacity and detoxifies it.
  • Doing activities like blowing a balloon, learning an air-based instrument like flute and trumpet helps in increasing lung vital capacity and detoxifies it.
  • A brisk walk in the early morning sun from 30-45 minutes helps in treating your body to its level best. Sun is a great source of Vitamin D that is why walking in the sun and connecting with the sun also help in activating our cells and rejuvenates us for the whole day.

Meditation:

In any kind of disease, stress comes complementary to it, but with our assurance and positive attitude, we can treat anything. The best thing to start with is breathing mindfully before sleep with the help of music to stay positive.

In a room take a bowl of water and add two three drops of orange or lavender essential oils this will help in soothing you and the aroma will relax you and keep you away from any kind of disease.

Use a 15-minute relaxation technique before sleep, by hearing a piece of soothing music and deep breathing will help in relaxing your mind.

A positive attitude will help you to deal with everything in life.

Sleep:

Sleeping for at least 7-8 hours is really helpful in dealing with any problem, sleep is our body's natural response and helps the body to heal. Sleep relaxes the muscles and strengthens our bodies. During sleep, our body goes into a repair mechanism where it heals itself.

Hopefully, these suggestions will help you

Thank you.
