Getting over the addiction to tea and coffee can be easy or tough depending on how determined you are.

People who come to our center get over it in a couple of days. But yes they do face withdrawal symptoms for a day or two.

These are some of the ways you could try to get over your habit.

1 Slowly bring down the number of times you consume tea or coffee daily .... until you come down to consuming it just once a day. And after that slowly bring down the potency and quantity too until you quit completely one day.

What could be challenging here is if you face any stressful situation you might be tempted very badly to go back to the beverages. So you will have to find ways to divert your mind at that moment by having herbal teas or talking to a friend or go out and distract yourself. Now this is a long process. But remember to stick to a majorly raw fresh locally grown seasonal fruits and vegetables to assist with cleansing too at the same time.

2 There’s another way too. A shorter approach if you are determined enough. Go on a completely raw food lifestyle or juice fast for three days. The first day you will experience detox symptoms like headache or nauseous ness. Just rest and relax you will get over it in a day or two. That’s it ... continue the cleansing diet for some more days to support more cleansing. Do get in touch with nature.... get sun exposure, spend time in the garden, breath in fresh air. Be relaxed. Trust the process and you would have quit the habit in no time.

Keep educating yourself every day to remind yourself why you are doing it.

Be happy be healthy always

Dear Doshi

Habit or dependence on Tea/ Coffee is because of both physical and mental imbalance in your body.
Reasons:

  1. Increased stress and increased mental exhaustion increases the urge of mental stimulation by caffeine or tannin.
  2. Increased accumulation of toxins in our body.
  3. Social obligation or encouraged by friends or family

In order to break this habit you need two work at both levels.

Mental level:

  1. Participate in pleasurable or recreational activities, pursue your interests to reduce stress.
  2. Optimum amount of mental stimulation through work, screen time etc. , Do not mentally exhaust yourself. Take few breaks in between your work.
  3. Educate yourself about the harmful effects of tea and coffee, it will help you rationalize your decision of getting rid of this habit.
  4. Do not simply keep drinking tea or coffee because your circle wants you to or you feel obligated.

Physical level:
First week routine:

  1. Early in the morning add 300 ml of vegetable juice to your routine daily ( no salt or pepper, diluted to suit your taste or consistency)
  2. Cut down the amount of tea/ coffee to exactly half the quantity that you were drinking earlier.
  3. Increase fruits and vegetables in your diet
  4. Once a week, replace one meal with either fruits or vegetables.
  5. Add minimum 30 to 45 minutes of physical activity daily, it will keep you energetic

*Individual who can directly replace the habit of drinking tea or coffee with herbal drink in the first week, can go for it directly.

2nd week routine:

  1. Replace the tea/ coffee with herbal drink like tulsi- ginger decoction, jasmine decoction ( simply boil fresh ingredient with water for 5 - 10 mins) or any herbal drink. This will help you cope up with the abscence of tea and coffee.
  2. Add wet abdominal pack ( tap water temperature) for 30 mins for better elimination.

* Enhance cleansing by following hip bath ( 20 mins, tap water temperature) or enema ( under supervision)...Read the link below.

Holistically craving or addiction of any thing is disturbed homogeneous of the metabolism or imbalance within the chemical structure of body. So first and foremost thing is balance your diet patterns. 2ndly balance your liquid forms within the body by taking lot of water.

Caffeine excess in the body is responsible for craving. This lowers energy levels and mood, so you feel like another tea and coffee — which continues the cycle.”

The craving for tea and beverages is also indication of water shortage within the body.

To avoid craving just pacify your mind that you are not made for that which is attracting you and ultimately the tea is the creator of at-least 18 types of venom in the body. It is called Dakini Shakini in Shastras.

The Natural source of caffeine is chewing the saunf (Anise) , lemon water and ginger tea. In order to slowly reduce your tea-related caffeine intake, try and use one teabag for multiple cups of tea or reduce the amount of time you leave the teabag in to brew. Or switch to herbal teas which contain precisely zero milligrams of caffeine. Ultimately, remember that, unless your tea drinking regularly runs into double figures each day, there's probably no need to panic.

Coffee or tea addictions are one of the commonest addictions in the world. Caffeine or tea has its own advantages and disadvantages. These addictions could have an adverse effect on your sleep pattern and in the long run it could hamper the sleep cycle and also normal working of bodily systems. It could bring down your sleep, hunger, increase acidity on the long run if these are not kept at moderate levels

Some natural ways to get rid of these are as follows:

  1. Subsitute wit herbal tea or coffee. The menu is well explained in of the recipes by me. Herbal or Coriander coffee could mimic the real coffee and could slowly help you to get rid of these addictive beverrages.
  2. Initially it is difficult to stop it one go, so it is better to start reducing the frequency of the beverages, then once your frequency has come down then it would be easier to cut down completely. Slowly tapering the frequency would be a wise step towards completely stopping it.
  3. Cut down on carboydrate. Usually we do take these beverages to keep ourselves alert after ingestion of large quantity of carbohydrate..So by reducing the intake of carbohydrate could automatically bring down the frequency of these addictive beverages.
  4. Substitue with hot vegetable soups. These could form as an alternative to these beverages
  5. Also it depends on your will power and self control. These could be achieved by your determination or practice of practices like Yoga and Meditations....

Hello Doshi,

Unless it's a conscious decision to substitute tea/ Coffee for something healthy like Green tea or turmeric tea till then one may not succeed. Therefore it's a practice of conscious decision-making whenever there is a craving for tea and coffee...starting with an alternative substitute also helps..

Hi Doshi, the only way to handle cravings is by leading a holistic lifestyle with high raw for a prolonged period of time. This applies for all the cravings of wrong foods/drinks

The first step is to quit all animal products. But this doesn’t stop the craving. It will only help the body to start detoxing. As you start including a lot of juices from vegetables and fruits, have fruits in abundance, have salads in abundance, your gut will start cleaning itself. Cravings are nothing but wrong messages from the gut to the brain sent by bad bacteria and viruses To get food for their survival. Once you start cleaning the gut, The current cravings automatically vanish. It also takes some willpower and determination to handle these initially. Please remember that once you start detoxing, you will have a lot of cravings which are hidden emotions/suppressed emotions for food which were not handled properly in the past. At that time it is best to make a choice to pick fruits in place of those foods otherwise the vicious cycle will continue to haunt you. Remember that every single living beings including viruses and bacteria will fight for their survival. When you stop giving the foods that they feed on, they will send wrong messages to the brain for wanting the wrong foods. If you give in to their demands they will continue to thrive in your body causing harm. Hence you must be aware that hunger is a sign for the body asking for glucose and cravings are wrong messages going to the brain because of the toxic accumulation in your body.

Rest assured people have handled their cravings successfully for a long time even from extreme food addictions by surrendering to the power of fruits vegetables and leafy greens in the form of juicing and whole produce.

It’s all a matter of how you carry yourself, and stick to your principles. Ultimately you are the only person who can define your health and how you achieve that.

For tea coffee also start substituting with plant milk and then slowly skip them and switch to herbal teas. Bringing ethical aspects in avoiding animal foods makes your foundations stronger.

Be blessed

Namaste,

Caffeine works as a stimulant and is indeed mildly addictive. So, if you drink coffee, tea or soda in excess, it’s obvious that you are (or soon will be) addicted to it.

In fact, if you find yourself craving a cup of coffee or tea as soon as you wake up it’s a clear sign that you are addicted to caffeine. This addiction is not at all good for your health.

It can increase your risk for hypertension, keep your liver busy from filtering other toxins and contribute to tooth decay, weak bones, anxiety, headaches, disrupted sleep habits and dehydration, to name a few.

How to Overcome:

Practice Deep Breathing

Lie down on your back.
Put your hands on your abdomen and relax your muscles.
Inhale deeply through your nose, expanding your abdomen and then filling your lungs with air. Count slowly to 5 as you inhale.
Hold your breath and count to 3.
Exhale slowly through your mouth. Again, count slowly to 5 while you exhale and slowly release any tension from your muscles.
Continue to inhale and exhale deeply for 10 minutes.
Practice deep breathing whenever you have a craving for coffee or Tea.

Drink Vegetable soup or juice During that time.

Or Drink some freshly made amla juice or any fruits that keeps you healthy and fit.

Herbal tea like Ginger, lemon or green tea will be more effective.

Takecare.
