In Hyperthyroidism the gland is overactive. Hyper Thyroidism occurs due to a deficiency of iodine. Excessive iodine causes hypothyroidism, an autoimmune disease also causes thyroid disorders. Stress and weight gain due to stress also causes thyroid disorder. Stress, Leads to an increase in cortisol which may disturb the proper function of the thyroid gland.
