Hi moms, my daughter has been coughing from last 15-20 days in mornings and at night. The doc says it’s because of the allergies and not due to cold. I believe in natural home remedies and usually give her nutmeg and liquorice powder with honey and it helped her in past. Since this cough and congestion is not due to cold am not giving her these now. Can anyone recommend tried and tested remedies or safe medicines for chest congestion and cough. Thanks

Through cough and colds, esp nagging ones, the body is demanding a lot of rest. So, focus on her rest. Since she will be having disturbed sleep at night, make sure she is able to nap in afternoon in dark or call it an earlier night for next 15 days. Wind down, have aroma baths for her in evening. Keep her in dim lights in evening before you sleep. Because only in rest mode will the body repair. If she has a bad coughing spell at 3-4 am, keep her hydrated through soaked raisins. If you can afford keep her off school and allow her to rest do so.
My daughter has recurring sinusitis. Am administering homoeopathic medicine and steam inhalation. Are there any other natural cures that I can give her as well?

Hi. Sinusitis is inflammation of the sinus caused by accumulation of toxic material. Body has an innate self healing mechanism, all you have to do is support your daughter's body in cleaning up these toxins. Toxins accumulate in an acidic body environment. You have to focus on increasing alkalinity in her body. Give her a diet rich in fruits, fruit juices and smoothies (only fruit based, no dairy), veggie salads, coconut water, lemon water. Give her veggie juices - Carrot spinach or carrot beetroot. Dairy, maida and white sugar are mucous forming and aggravate sinusitis. Completely eliminate these. Steaming is good. How often is she doing it? Try 3-4 times a day, add eucalyptus oil drops in water while steaming. You can also pour a few drops in pillow for inhalation while sleeping. Hope this helps. Take care dear. It might need a bit of effort and discipline to implement what I said, but we have to do it for our kids. They eat so much of processed food and live in polluted air, we have to make an extra effort to help their bodies regain their balance.
Hi I have bad cervical spondylitis which is only aggravating over the years. I have tried Yoga and Acupressure, but they allow temp relief. What must I do to heal this naturally?

1. Oil pulling. 2. Deep breathing for 45 minutes daily. Three seconds inhalation and seven seconds exhalation. 3. Simple neck rotation exercise, preferably early morning. 4. Sun bathing 30 minutes daily. Cervical spondylitis is sign of nervous system signal congestion in neck region. Check why this increase of signals is taking place. Heart, lungs and face are the place where you got to look for toxins accumulation as all nerves from these region concentrate in cervical region of spinal cord.
I am 40 plus! Have been having backache of and on for last 1-2 years years! Right now acute again! What should I do?

Back aches typically come due to strenuous activities over a period of time. I’m a mother of a 2.5 year old boy, sometimes when I excessively carry him around I get a backache. What I have noticed is that if I become more disciplined about my food on days when I know I’ll be superbly busy running after him, I’m able to manage much better. So fruits till noon and veggie juices before lunch - just these 2 things itself have such a big impact!! I’ll strongly suggest you follow this too as your problem has been lingering for a while now. In addition to that, ensure you don’t strain ur back. Don’t sit in same posture for long. Do yoga for back strengthening, google for the relevant poses. Regular massage will also give you relief. While taking bath, try putting water on your back through shower, alternating b/w hot and cold, do 3 rounds. I think this will really help you.
I am 45 years of age! My hair was never heavy but lately I have been observing that it has thinned out considerably and decreasing further! Could you pl help?

If you are on a healthy detox diet then hair fall is very common . It will pick up in a year or two. Hair is not essential for life or it’s not one of the vitals for living and hence hair falls and regrows as healing is happening and when body finds surplus resources and vital force to pay attn to hair, it will. However, if you are on a sedentary, stressful non vegan lifestyle then toxins are catching up. Please look up other posts here to see how you can get back to a healthy lifestyle. But there is no immediate fix for hair fall. I have posted a recipe for a natural hair wash. Please do that consistently and given healing from within and outside with this hair wash, the hair fall will slowly stabilise. Few key points to remember Massage your hair scalp with cold pressed coconut oil twice or thrice a week and then wash ur hair. Drink enough water Comb slowly Get ur b12 and d3 checked

Toxin accumulation is the prime cause of diseases, they happen from three sources - physical, chemical and emotional. Physical is the environment you live in, primarily air we breathe and water we drink must be clean. Chemical constitutes all food we have, soaps, shampoos, creams, etc that we put in our body must be clean. Emotional toxin is one aspect that is 100% individual's power to control, meditation and prayers are the best. Since you asked for 10 things, I will try to complete the list as under:- 1. Get up at 5 AM daily. 2. Oil pulling. 3. Deep breathing for 30 minutes. 4. Meditation for 30 minutes. 5. Start your day with green leafy juice at 12 PM. 6. Two percent of body weight will give your approximate intake of fruits and raw vegetables daily. If one is 60 kg then the 2% is 1200 grams, this means one must have 600 grams fruits and 600 grams raw vegetables daily. 7. Simple stretching exercise or yoga asanas for Spinal Cord. 8. Use of only Organic Cold pressed coconut oil for skin. 9. Minimum two bananas daily. 10. Minimum two sqaure inch of coconut giri daily.

Hi… I think I am gaining weight due to water retention. What should I do?

Relook at your salt intake (especially iodised, chemical salt). Salt entered our food systems, more for taste and offers no nutrition. In fact in terms of natural health, it is considered a foodless food. The manufacturing process and iodisation of salt has further complicated the various elements that enter our system along with salt. In today’s world, after sugar, this is a leading additive in every processed food item (as it works as a preservative & stabilizer) so much that even after reading the labels, it difficult to eliminate this. Salt is caustic to the sensitive inner tissues of the body & the cell structure hence water is retained within the body to neutralize its acidic effect. The body works furiously to eliminate the salt, but when is unable to do so deposits across body fluids. This actually artificially creates the signal of thirst too (Not sure if you getting that yet). Water retention thus can be construed as the presence of salt in the body which it is unable to flush out. Here is what you can do: What to eliminate: Processed packaged foods, outside meals, bottled sauces, pickles just about everything has a very high dose of salt – reduce them drastically (if not completely) Replace white salt at home with Sendha namak, and Himalayan pink salt. Reduce dairy, non-veg and grains intake – these heavy digesting foods hinder significantly with the process of elimination and make our body overwork.
I find it very confusing and overwhelming to figure out what to eat and what not to eat. Healthy feels boring, but am doing it because someone told me to. Do I have to be on raw all through my life?

Lifestyle is a way of life that you love body mind and spirit. If you live a conflicted life, your mind and heart being elsewhere and you looking at a healthy way of life as a diet then it’s likely that you won’t see results. Living a happy life with junk may not kill as opposed to living a conflicted life with raw. I have worked with someone who was a raw vegan but suffered a high bp. So unless you are at peace with anything, it’s a crime to your body in doing it. Make peace with ur lifestyle or follow something that your heart asks. You may be wrong, but you will come back to the right reasons overtime.

I have this long running itching issue in my body and none of mainstream (Allopathy, Homeo, Ayurveda, naturopathy) seems to have worked. There is itching after interaction with water (bath, pool, rain drench etc) in almost entire body except lower side of hand/legs, butt and face. It last for 20-30 mins. Can someone throw some light on the why and on similar experience, if any?

Hi! Rest, relaxation and focusing on sleep to restore the balance – may be the key here. The body always does work towards the optimum health. For health, thoughts and emotions play a very role. How are you emotionally, frenzied, anxious, holding onto a lot from the past? It may be worth looking into and important to cool down the frenzied thoughts. Maybe for the next few months, you could look at seriously connecting with nature both at the physical and mental level. Nature is the best relaxant and the best coolant. Go gardening, re-establish your connect with the soil, and grass Walk on wet grass (as you mentioned that part does not react) Absorb more of the sun (not the heating afternoon one, but early morning fresh air one) Breathing and Yoga are also known to help with ‘incurable’ ailments (Isha foundation especially focuses breathing to heal within) Mediation is a great tool - you may want to attempt it to help you bring the balance back!
I am 2 months pregnant. I have been getting headaches. I tried to link it to hunger and yes it is correlated to some extent. But at times i have eaten well or am not feeling hungry at all, still the headache starts. I know my body is going through many changes, but i hope headache is not because of low bp or some other issue? Besides, these days i get super fatigued in the afternoon and sleep crazily.

Pregnancy surely is a time of many changes and surprises! Your body is going through so many changes. During this, I believe we need to take good care and listen to our body. I hope you are making sure that your daily intake of nourishing foods i.e fruits, salads, nuts etc. is quite high. Along with healthy diet you must sleep well - at least 8 to 10 hours of sleep, in complete darkness. Also focus on breathing during this period. When you wake up in morning, inculcate a lot of deep breathing exercises. This should also help.
Black Til Laddoo
Nuts are great ways to add a variety of nutritional profile. Healthy Oils, natural source of fats, calcium, and even fiber, there is no reason why not add them more. A wide variety of various nuts on a weekly basis, will ensure you are never to worry ‘where is my protein and calcium coming from'! Inspired by Assamese cuisine this black sesame laddoo is lovely to eat after a meal. Black sesame is very high on calcium though it has a different taste, so you may want to try in smaller batch.

Hi. Keep yourself adequately oxygenated. This can happen in 2 ways: 1. Breathe in good oxygen - do deep breathing sitting in the sun. Do a few yoga breathing exercises - anulom vilom, bhastrika, etc. 2. Avoid foods that block flow of oxygen in the body, I.e. un-natural foods such as non veg, dairy, refined oils, white sugar, table salt, junk foods, etc. Eat fibre rich foods such as fruits and vegetables, eat in whole form or as juices, smoothies and salads. Eat nuts and seeds, whole grains. Stress also reduces oxygen flow to brain cells. So work on that. Engage in any activity of your interest such as music, gardening, reading, etc. Challenge your mind through chess or sudoku or puzzles. Stimulate the brain cells. Focus on sleeping well. Body undertakes function of repair and maintenance only when you sleep well. Overall- remember that body is programmed to give us good health. It doesn’t matter whether it’s the nervous system or respiratory or digestive or any other. Staying aligned to the laws of nature ensures our body can work at its optimum. Hope I could answer your query. All the best!!
Can someone tell me if there's a problem in eating papaya during pregnancy? I love papaya, but have been told not to eat it.

There are many fruits which are recommended ‘not to be eaten’ during pregnancy like Pineapple, Tamarind, Papaya, Grapes etc. Common link is presence of high concentration of enzymes or chemicals in these fruits which can either lead to variations in important hormones or lead to uterine contractions which are not desirable during pregnancy. Papaya was strictly mentioned NO even by my Gynecologist. Some research at my end indicates that ripe Papaya is ok but raw or semi ripe Papaya has high concentrations of latex which can lead to uterine contractions. Remain safe and best thing is to avoid as it is matter of only few months!
